I really enjoyed my stay at Johnson's - Johnson was a wonderfully welcoming and generous host who understands exactly what travellers to Alleppy might need. My room was well thought-out with great facilities - especially the mosquito net and aircon! I ordered the breakfast one morning, which was very tasty. I also enjoyed Johnson's tips for visiting nearby sights and meeting his lovely son. I really felt like part of the family! I also took up Johnson's offer of a afternoon/evening backwater tour and was so glad I did: this is not a usual tourist trip. Provided by Valentine, the backwater tour felt incredibly unique and bespoke. We were taken to a very secluded location, from which we took a traditional wooden canoe through the smallest of canals out to a larger stretch - spotting diverse birdlife, snakes and fruit bats along the way. Halfway we received tea and a snack, and the tour ended with a fresh, delicious homemade Keralan meal - the traditional sadhya. The whole trip we only spotted one or two other boats, so at times it felt as though we were the only tourists in Alleppy! Highly recommended.
