In the morning at the onsite cafe, we had delicious oat milk lattes with super cute Mt Fuji latte art! The waterfall nearby was also really lovely, and we enjoyed hiking around in the forest!

I also really like the new spa like bathroom. Overall this was a great base for our family as we explored the Aokigahara forest and nearby lake area. After spending time in small hotel rooms in Tokyo, the space was appreciated. It’s a great option for people who want to self cater and are independent travellers not requiring additional service or ‘frills’ yet appreciate quality, clean, and modern amenities.

Located in Yamanakako in the Yamanashi region, Sugakuso provides accommodation with free private parking. Featuring a shared lounge, the 1-star ryokan has air-conditioned rooms with free WiFi. The ryokan features family rooms. We stayed for 2 nights from April 5, 2025. Luckily we got a big room with a great view of lake Yamanaka and Mt Fuji. It’s a Japanese style room. We stayed on the 2nd floor of the bldg adjacent to the main building where the shared bath (one for men and one for women) located. The shared bath has 5 showers and a rectangular tub for onsen (water temperature is very hot in the onsen). There are 3 toilets on the 2nd floor in our bldg shared among 4 rooms. The toilet rooms are very small. There are 2 sinks next to the toilet rooms. Everything was very clean and functional. There’s a big refrigerator and hot water dispenser with tea & coffee right outside our room. The owners are very nice and kind. They don’t speak English but used a phone with translation app so there’s no problem communicating. Highly recommended to order both breakfast and dinner here. Pay cash in advance when order with the owners. 1000 JPY for breakfast and 2000 JPY for dinner for one person. The food was plentiful, delicious and gorgeously displayed. There are steps away from Hirano beach where we took many beautiful photos of the sunrise on Mt Fuji. The hotel is 2 minutes walk to Hirano bus stop.
