I rented this studio in Funchal for one night, and everything was perfect. The hosts were amazing—always available and ready to help with anything. The location was great, not far from the city center, and everything was within walking distance.

With all the feel of a log cabin in a wonderfully remote location, these eco-shelters are incredibly comfortable, with a superb shower, neat little kitchenette, and a wonderfully comfortable attic bedroom. Just nine of them are dotted across the hillside, with a wide veranda and immediate access to some excellent walking - including up to Pico do Arrieiro. The bar/restaurant within easy walking distance is another plus.

We had the most wonderful stay at the Mountain Eco Shelter. The location is beautiful - the lodges are in a beautiful Ecological Park full of plants and flowers. You can do hikes directly from the lodges. The lodges themselves have everything you need - a great kitchen, a comfortable bed and a balcony with a stunning view. The staff here are really friendly and helpful. There’s even a snackbar down the road where you can grab dinner & drinks. We loved every minute of our stay here and we are already planning to come back again.

Lovely cabin surrounded by mountain views, we saw so many stars at night. There's a great place to eat and drink (O Barracão), just 10 mins walk from the cabin, and it's only 20 minutes drive from Funchal (we had a rental car, but I believe there's a bus stop nearby too). It felt like a little home away from home, bed was very comfortable, shower was excellent and the little kitchenette had a stove top, microwave, kettle, coffee machine and fridge. Our host was wonderful, very welcoming and gave us lots of recommendations. I would definitely stay here again!

The location in the middle of a nature reserve. Calm and quiet apart from the occasional donkey and peacock ;) Very nice and warm host. The 'shelter' is still new, clean and it is nice to be able to cook our own food. The variation in weather between clear blue skies with sunshine, mysterious fog and cloudy with rain. Very close to Pico do Arieiro to watch the sunrise and sunset. The flashlight came in super handy!

We had the most amazing stay and Dioclécio (who runs the place) was incredibly helpful and kind. We travelled with our two small dogs - the cabins were perfectly dog-friendly, and we couldn’t have asked for a better location for hiking. All in all, excellent location, service and experience.

The shelter was exactly as shown in the pictures. Very comfortable! The location is great, there is a very good and low price restaurant that you can reach through a short walk. Dioclécio was very kind and gave us a few pieces of advice on what to do in the area. The position is strategic for PR1 and other trek routes. It has been an amazing stay, and we're looking forward to coming back. This place is pure beauty!
