There is an on-site restaurant, plus free private parking and free WiFi are available. Guests can use the hot spring bath and the public bath, or enjoy lake views. Staff was extremely friendly and able to fully correspond in English. Dinner and breakfast were both beautiful, unique and delicious. They really cater to making the most of the regional Tochigi cuisine and specialties. Room was clean and all the amenities were well though out and high quality. The room with the open air bath was well worth it alone so everything else was a bonus. I did not check out the public bath due to tattoo policy.
Itamuro Onsen, Nasushiobara

The ryokan features mountain views, an outdoor fireplace, a 24-hour front desk, and free WiFi is available throughout the property. I was originally interested in this hotel because I read that the Onsen had a Museum full of Kishio Suga's work. I had been following this amazing Japanese artist for a number of years... so that fact was a deciding factor for me. But, the Onsen, the staff, the care that we felt they put into everything they did, the atmosphere of the place, the gardens also designed by Kishio Suga, the delightful guests we had the pleasure of meeting, our room and the food we were served - and let's not forget the tour of the museum! - made me love this place. Itamuro Onsen Daikokuya has history. Someone told us that the Onsen was 500 years old. Most of the Japanese guests we met there went to purely relax. The kind and capable staff take amazing care of all the guests: A Japanese friend in Tokyo told me I should celebrate the Winter Solstice while I was in Nasushiobara. She explained that on that one day, it had always been traditionally celebrated by putting YUZU fruit in Japanese baths and eating something made of pumpkin. I asked the hotel about all this. I really don't think it was part of their plan... but, they did it all: the YUZU in the baths and the specially prepared Pumpkin desserts. It was all to please us, their guests, and make sure our stay was perfect. I was so grateful and felt so pampered and happy. I enjoyed that fruit in the Japanese bath more than you can imagine. So, If you want to relax in a beautiful Onsen with history, go see great art at the. Suga museum, to have a beautiful experience, and be pampered in a very Japanese sort of way...you must come to Itamuro Onsen Daikokuya.

I selected this place because I read other reviews about the eclectic unique nature of the hotel and atmosphere. I wasn’t disappointed, in fact it exceeded my expectations in every way. The moment you arrive and are greeted warmly by the staff and handed a free drink of your choice, sets the tone for a wonderful experience ahead. The room was huge, warm, comfortable and very special in its minute details of architecture. We chose a river view room and I would highly recommend doing so as the massive picture window overlooks the forest and mountains and is simply breathtaking in the morning sunrise. This hotel was designed with careful thought given to every detail in its creation, with the mindset of creating a restful respite from the modern busy world we live in today. It has achieved this goal in my opinion and then some. We had the honour and pleasure of meeting the architect the second day we stayed and had a conversation with him about his wonderful hotel, he is such a joy to speak with. The food was also an absolute delight, huge filling and varied items at breakfast, and sumptuous selections and pairings at dinner. The staff are The best of anywhere we have stayed so far in Japan, and are gracious and smiling all the time. We speak very limited Japanese but this was never a problem so don’t worry about this as a barrier for coming here. We wouldn’t hesitate to come back and I was sorry I had to leave. This hotel, and Nikko is such a special beautiful place everyone should see it once if they can. Thank you shelter garden and staff for allowing me to have such a warm, restful and wonderful stay at your gorgeous hotel, and thank you so much for all your warmth and hospitality.

Excellent location right at Utsunomiya Station next to a convenience store. Rooms were very spacious, clean, and newly renovated, and the A/C worked very well. Check-in was easy, and they arranged for our group's rooms to be right next to each other. Nice public bath facilities. Overall a great value for what we paid.
Location and flair. We had a twin room in the newly renovated annex. We had the set dinner in the main restaurant. The hotel is beautiful, with colorful wood carvings, little Japanese gardens, surprising courtyards. Fantastic cooking. Try the Japanese breakfast.
The staff were very friendly and helpful. The hotel is very modern and clean. Excellent location.
Great location, right next to the snow lantern festival. Modern lobby and lounge. Free tea coffee and juices at anytime and self serve wine - great choices at reasonable cost. Free ramen for guests from 9-10.30 pm was a nice touch and the onsen was a unique experience - from images I thought it was outside but it’s enclosed by glass. Wish they sold the pyjamas they provide in the room as very comfortable. Staff very friendly, google translate came in handy
Excellent location to main world heritage sites for history enthusiasts like myself. I was surprised by the level of English fluency in Nikko, and especially at Nikko Station Hotel II. The staff was friendly and helpful. My room was nice and stylish. They had lockers with good sizes I could use, so I didn't have to worry about carrying heavy luggage on my final day.
Guest house was in a great location, really close to the train station and a family mart. The host was really friendly and helped us plan a hike with bus times and a guide he prepared himself. The toilets were modern and clean.
Wonderful location with beautiful magical setting. Very good value and quality food and special presentation. The hotel staff were very attentive and kind, nothing was too much trouble making it a great overall experience. Loved the very Authentic hot spring and cozy open fire :)
Location is good. The room seems newly renovated, though the building looks laid back. The staff is efficient and they have lockers for guest to store luggage b4 check-in. The coins for the lock was refunded when u retrieve the luggage. So it is free storage. Breakfast spread is ok.
I loved the modern mix of café, art space, shop, event location and hostel in a calm area, that has a lot to offer. It’s a place where people come together. It’s also some train stations away from Nikko, if you feel like sightseeing.
