After driving from Madrid and arriving around 3:30 we didn’t want the hassle of driving into town for dinner (town is typical rural Portugal) but every restaurant in the area delivers so we sat by the pool, had a beer or wine, jumped into the jacuzzi and waited for food. Bed very comfortable, shower great and lots of stars at night. There are not many rooms so we had the whole grounds to ourselves 😀 Plus the national park is in the vicinity for hiking the next day.

This bed and breakfast is very special. Several cozy, spacious rooms are set next to a beautiful river in the peaceful village of Sandomil. This charming bed and breakfast is where we always stay in this area because you are instantly relaxed and in vacation mode the moment you step foot on the property. This hotel is run by a lovely couple that are very hands on to your needs, very friendly and helpful to give you recommendations on restaurants, hikes and things to see in the area. They also make an amazing breakfast each morning and will make an amazing gourmet dinner upon request. The rooms are decorated with such personal touches and the views and tranquility of grapes, mountains and river views, you could sit and relax on a swing or lounge chair outside the room for hours. Sunsets with a glass of wine are amazing there also. I would highly recommend this!!

Great clean and modern B&B with a fantastic breakfast. A real little gem away from the beaten track. We will definitely be back.

Solar De Alarcao, a property with a garden, is located in Guarda, 100 metres from Guarda Cathedral, 10 km from Guarda Train Station, as well as 30 km from Belmonte Calvário Chapel. It is situated 400 metres from Guarda Castle and provides a housekeeping service. The farm stay features garden views, a sun terrace, a 24-hour front desk, and free WiFi is available. As you drive up to the house, you will drive all the way around the cathedral and enter parking on the backside of the cathedral. Depending on the number of cars parked in cathedral square, you might have to turn left around them to enter thru the gate of #25. If you see #27, do not continue on the road to the right. The entrance to parking in a gated courtyard is to the left of 27. Once you are there, however, the hostess is so very nice and the location is perfect. The home is beautiful, filled with antiques and charm, and there’s a pleasant garden to sit in. Our room was perhaps a little smaller than the average hotel room, but with a comfortable bed, super modern bathroom, and view of the garden. The house is air conditioned. We wished we’d planned 2 days to potter around Guarda and enjoy. As other guests have advised, there is one, big set of stairs you have to go up with your luggage. In the morning, breakfast is at the base of those stairs. No ramp or elevator. Breakfast was lovely: meat and cheese, cereal, fruit, bread, fresh jams, a sampling of cakes and coffee/tea/juices/water.

The owners are lovely people who were very welcoming and informative . The property has been developed by the owners and family over 30 plus years. There are now large cherry orchards and also many other fruit trees from which the owner makes a number of delicious jams and jellies. She additionally provides fresh fruit from the farm with the generous breakfast that also includes bread, cheeses, eggs and meats. She even provided fresh herbal tea from her garden herbs. We did not stay long enough to use the pool or enjoy other areas of the property but everything about this place is wonderful. The rooms have views of the countryside and / or mountains and it is very peaceful. The rooms are spacious and comfortable. I highly recommend this B and B and only wish we could have stayed longer!

I was traveling with my two kids and we were alone on the quinta. It was like we were staying in the castle. Clean swimming pool, air condition in each bedroom, beautiful territory.
