Our stay in Shimaya was lovely. Authentic Ryokan experience with all the comfort. The onsens in the hotel are amazing. The owner is very kind and drove us to the monkey park. He also gave us the best tips for our walk back through the Onsen town. The breakfast is simple but varied, make sure to taste the local apples and grapes!

Really nice and friendly staff. Nice and clean rooms. Generous breakfasts and dinners with daily changing menues - the wagyu meat was especially good! Private spa with finnish sauna, steam bath, onsen water, cold bath, outside area and even a massage seat and included drinks was bookable for a small fee. Free coffee and tea available in the lounge (tea also in the room). Convenient shuttle service to the train station.

We had a really lovely and relaxing time. The hosts were welcoming and helpful, even going so far as to drive us to the monkey park. The meals were exceptional! We are vegetarian and the hosts prepared beautiful meals for our requirements.

We only spent one night there to visit Snow Monkey Park - we wished we had stayed longer. Great location, just a 5 min walk from the station. We had clean good sized room, and the outdoor onsen was great with snow falling as we relaxed. Dinner was also at the onsen and we weren’t disappointed by the kaiseki style meal. To top it off one of the owners will drop you off at the entrance to monkey park and pick you up as well. We had a great stay.

Amazing property with even more amazing staff. We stayed for two night during our honeymoon and couldn’t be happier with the experience. It was an authentic yet luxurious Ryokan. Our room was beautifully decorated, spotless and it even had its own onsen. The food was exceptional and the staff was very well trained and extremely friendly. Highly recommended this hotel and would love to go back on day.

Wonderful choice if you stay in this region. The staff is very kind and help wherever they can. If you have the chance book a room with private onsen to relax in after a round of skiing. The public onsen is very nice too and the dinner was excellent! I highly recommend this place!
