Wow if you are looking for a luxury Japanese experience, this is it!! Our stay was exceptional from the get go. The traditional welcome was set in an beautiful historic house set apart from the hotel which was rather a surprise for us as we thought we had been taken to the wrong place. We were given champagne and oyaki cakes while the host explained our stay. Then a short walk (or they can shuttle you) up through the beautiful streets of Asama Onsen. The hotel itself is next level! Beds were so comfortable, snacks and cold drinks available 24/7, and the onsen on the deck was just divine. The bookshop/library is absolutely incredible. The breakfast and dinner is included -Not that we didn't like it as was a great experience and fabulously done on an open fire in restaurant - the food is very traditional so come with open mind and give it a go!! Hotel is situated outside of main central city so you do need to taxi to places which didn't bother us as was so worth it. Highly recommend. Was such a highlight of our trip.

Very nice Onsen hotel close to the mountains with perfect view of the city from our room. Very lovely Japanese room with tatami but real beds (for my friend a must), quite big as well, with TV (with English NHK World). I loved the onsen, it was beautiful, clean, hot and so relaxing with a great view. The staff was very nice as usual, and we had a shuttle service in the morning back to the station. The breakfast box was great, I loved not having to leave the room, but eat in peace and quiet. We choose the Japanese bento box, which was delicious!

Absolutely loved our stay at Izumiso! We opted for no dinner and the staff gave us a map of their recommendations around the area, all within walking distance. The onsen was beautiful and relaxing

The personnel was really nice, they wanted to help us with everything. We couldn’t get the local bike rental app working, and we asked if there was any possibility’s for renting a bike. When we came back from our room, the two woman that worked at the check in fixed two bikes for us!

Very Shows era. Very Japanese. Typical Japanese onsen hotel. Quiet and relaxed. Geared for those who like to use the onsen several times a day and relax in their room in between.

The hotel was amazing—so clean and welcoming! There were many thoughtful details that made our experience exceptional. From the public baths and sauna, that had creams and beauty accessories, to the evening treats like ice cream and noodles, everything was delightful. We truly enjoyed our stay and look forward to coming back someday!

I booked a shared room which was perfect since I was solo traveling and didn't need much space. Staff was very friendly and gave a quick tour of the hostel. I would say I was pretty cautious about not making too much noise being in a shared room and sound proofing is not too great overall since this is an older building but didn't bother me too much. I think it's a perfect little stay for the 2 nights that I was there. There's also a kitchen that would have been great if I needed to cook but I didn't end up using it. They have a spacious area to just sit and relax outside of the rooms as well.
Overall, definitely enjoyed my stay and will book here again if I come back to Matsumoto!
