A wonderful escape up in the forest outside of Kyoto at this Ryokan. The staff took such good care of us, Ryokan and the surroundings was beautiful and we got to have the Kaiseki dinner by the river in the most stunning location. Icing on the cake was the private Onsen at the porch, all alone with only the forest outside.

We had dinner outdoors, 5 minutes away from the ryokan and it was great. We could enjoy the beautiful scenery while having dinner. After dinner, we could watch fireflies flying everywhere! The breakfast we had in the ryokan was amazing as well. The room was spacious, clean and quiet.

The location close to the centre. The facilities, the hot spring, my son and I simply loved it. Nice and charming staff, good meal. Definitely, we wouldn’t repeat the experience there.

The room was very spacious compared to all other hotels we stayed in Japan. Pillows were the most comfortable ones as well. I really loved the pajamas pants, super comfy! Breakfast was good although there wasn't much variety.

The hospitality is like no other. We arrived in Kyoto via Shinkansen and walked under the rain in our rain coats dragging our luggage bags across the street for 10mins from Gojo Station. When we got to Seikoro Ryokan, soaked, the staff immediately helped us with the luggage bags, brought towels to dry ourselves, took off our raincoats to clean them and gave us umbrellas! In hindsight, we should have probably hailed a taxi in that weather.
We were lucky Akari-san was assigned to be our room attendant as she was so attentive, polite and nice. She prepared warm Hojicha as welcome drinks every time we got back to the Ryokan. She explained our breakfast and dinner dishes well, and her recommendations on how to eat them. She even wrote us a personalized letter to wish us a pleasant day in our language - we were so touched! She made our experience in Kyoto comfortable and we truly appreciate having her.
We would also recommend getting the Kaiseki dinner course, which you have to book a few days in advance (you can let them know through Booking.com’s messaging function). We opted for the UME 10 course meals and we were stuffed by the end of it. They were so good and we still dream of the hearty Kaiseki to this day!
Public bath opens at 5:30am, so I had the opportunity to try it out while everyone’s still asleep. Definitely recommended!
