Traditional ryokan with small onsen as part of the hotel. They are private onsen, so you can go there as a couple / family.
Definitely recommend to book the dinner even if it seems bit expensive. It is worth it!
Best experience we had in Japan.

The staff was very friendly and accomodating. The hotel was spotless and with a premium feel. Yukatas have been included with all the necessary toiletries, and the open air bath was spot on. Also free reservations of the hotel's private baths are available, even if you have a bath in your room. Some drinks were provided free of charge (coffee, tea, beers, juice, etc...), and a platter of fruits, too (seasonal).
We had western style beds, but we opted to sleep on tatami beds, it was an interesting experience.
They offer free shuttle service both to the train station and to reataurants, which is very welcome given the location on the hill.

We had a traditional style room with dinner and breakfast served in the room, and with a private spa tub in the bathroom.
The service during the meals was out of this world, and the food was varied and really high quality. As westerners, some of the food was a bit too exotic for us, but it was more than enough food anyway. The beef was really good.
We experienced both one of the private spas and the natural public spa, and they were both wonderful. The spa tub in the room was also amazing, and it's such a treat to get right into a really hot bath straight from bed. With a wonderful view, no less.
This was an exceptional experience and is truly recommended.

All staffs are very kind and they provided high quality of services. Onsen was great and also Kaiseki dinner was awesome and delicious. Stay at Okuno Hosomichi was an unforgettable time for us. At the room there were various snacks, fruits and drinks. Thank you and we will stay again when we visit Arima Onsen once again.

Surugatei has a very central location, and a very comfortable room with a separate bathroom and shower. The public onsens are close-by. It was easy to check in at a local hotel, and you use passwords to get into the room. Highly recommended!
