The view from the terrace is incredible. The staff are so welcoming and generous with their time, offering advice on the best restaurants to eat in and attractions to visit. We loved being able to come back for a drink on the terrace after exploring Matera.
Rooms are clean, and beds are comfortable. Bathroom facilities are great, air-conditioning worked a charm, especially after the extreme heat Matera is experiencing in July 2023. Breakfast was plentiful.

The property location was perfect, so close to everything, but particularly close to the things we were most interested in visiting while in Matera. The hosts were super friendly, and so helpful. They allowed us to leave our luggage with them after check out which we really appreciated.
The breakfast was amazing, the best that we had that had been provided by a property during our travels in Italy. There was so much variety, and everything was delicious.

I had a wonderful stay at L'Hotel In Pietra. The hotel is located in the heart of the Sassi, making it incredibly cozy and charming. The room was perfect for a solo traveler, providing a comfortable retreat after a day of exploring. The location is perfect—easy to walk to nearby restaurants. Breakfast was delightful, with a good selection of fresh pastries, fruits, and hot options. Matera is one of the best places I have visited! Stayed in a cave room with shell fossils in the cave walls; it was a well lit cave but with all the comforts of home including shower, air conditioning, TV, and we were lucky in that we had no stairs to take to our room. Also there is a lift that can take you up to the upper level restaurant, Crialòss, that has a panoramic view of Matera. Also very much appreciated the welcome drink. Having a prosecco with the spectacular view that is Matera on a sunny day on a patio is one of the best memories I have. Staff were also incredibly communicative prior to my stay and were able to help arrange for guarded parking and a shuttle into Matera so that was zero stress.

The greeting was extremely warmful; prior to that, the staff had arranged the parking and shuttle very efficiently (you cannot park in the Sassi in Matera). In the heart of an amazing town, the hotel is just fabulous (the "caves" have been turned into wonderful sleeping alcoves and rooms), and the staff is always there to help --with a smile! Don't miss it.
