Octant Douro located in Vista Alegre, Castelo de Paiva. Offering a stunning infinity pool the hotel overlooks the Douro River blending itself with the surrounding nature. The view from our room was amazing. The staff were amicable and professional. We took the boat tour on the Douro, which was relaxing and scenic. We would definitely go back again to the Octant Douro.

The staff is kind and friendly, it’s small ( I think 6-8 rooms) so not overcrowded. They prepare meals on site. It was absolutely charming and the « slow life » needed for this holiday! The room was well appointed and the view over the pool, garden and town was pleasant. Being able to walk to the town from the property was beneficial. The garden was beautiful.

Also helping with recomendation for visiting the surrondings. The place is absolutely gorgeous if what you are looking for is a natural, relaxed atmosphere. We really liked the common breakfast table that gave us many good opportunities to speak to other guests - the breakfast is buffet style but has all you need incl fruit and fresh juice. You are free to roam the grounds and pick fruit to eat and you have several wineyards within 2km distance. The rooms were really quirky and good size, very clean and with a lot of small details. If you rent with kitchen you have all you need to cook or simply make your European style picknick dinner on the balcony with view to hawks and smaller birds flying overhead. The old rockwalls and modern isolated windows let you sleep in complete silence so make sure you leave a small crack in the old wooden blinds so that the sun will wake you up. We loved the fresh pool after the hot daytrips and you can buy cold wine from local wineyards in the reception if you forgot to bring some home for an evening glass.

Quinta do Tedo is an award-winning agrotourism that provides accommodation with breakfast included. I loved the location. There are hiking trails where you can do bird watching and go thru the wine yards. There are facilities for kayaking too, everything included (paddles, kayaks, and lifesavers). The stay includes a tour of the process and degustation of wine.
