It was an absolutely quiet location, somewhere hidden in a small dead-end street, with the atmosphere of a house more than of a hotel. The different levels provided a cosy atmosphere. The swimming pool was also nice. You could also park the car on the premises. What we really liked was the flexibility and kindness of the owners. Unfortunately our car broke down, could not be repaired and we were being repatriated. So instead of 2 nights we were forced to stay for a few more nights, and the owners were so kind to accommodate us although we did not know how long we had to stay on. They were prepared to store the car at the hotel until it was to be towed. So thank you for this customer friendly attitude!

The Hotel da Oliveira is within the historical Guimarães city centre, a UNESCO World Heritage site. The Guimarães Castle, the city’s most iconic landmark is 150 metres away.

The hotel is right in the historical center of Guimarães but still offers parking (100m down the road). The room was absolutely fantastic, so comfortable and neat. We had a gorgeous balcony opened to the pedestrian street below, the bed had 3 different sort of pillows to choose from, I couldn’t fault anything. The staff was extremely cordial and kind, especially considering my husband’s mishap at breakfast when he spilled coffee all over the counter (we’re terribly sorry). They were all lovely to us from the first minute to the last! Great impression since it’s our first time in the city, but we’ll definitely be back and stay here again!

The Casa do Juncal is a real gem. Perfect location to explore Guimarães, so close to absolutely everything in the old town. The hotel was charming as was our room, bed was fantastic as was the sitting room and bathroom. The staff were exceptionally lovely, very helpful and went out of their way to help, as was Ana who manages the bookings and everything else. Our breakfasts in the breakfast room were more than we could eat, and the garden was great even in the rain.

Smack in the centre of the city. But it’s worth a trip to the old town, that’s within walking distance. Nice tidy hotel with the friendliest staff. Clean functional room with air con and comfortable beds. If your put off with the price being extremely reasonable, don’t be! It’s perfect 🤩
