I wasn’t particularly thrilled with our stay. We arrived, were greeted with faultless service, and were in our room resting within minutes. A little chaos or a delayed check-in would have added some much-needed excitement. The room was spotless and disturbingly quiet. I prefer a bit of noise - doors slamming, muffled conversations, maybe even the occasional argument next door. It helps me relax. Instead, I was trapped in a bubble of oppressive calm. Breakfast was served with a stunning view of the Guggenheim Museum, which was entirely too distracting. Naturally, this made it impossible to fully focus on the excellent food. The location was also far too convenient, with everything just a short walk away. I usually enjoy the challenge of navigating public transport, but here, even that simple pleasure was denied. And, to make it worse, my wife loved it. Now I have to live up to this standard every time we travel.

Situated opposite Bilbao’s Guggenheim Museum, this boutique hotel was created by fashion designer Antonio Miró. It offers free WiFi and a 24-hour honesty bar.

This was the perfect location and the room was really spacious and clean. Better than a lot of 4 star hotel rooms I’ve stayed in. There was even a desk so it was useful to work from there too.
