Having gained independence in 1991 following the breakup of the Soviet Union, Uzbekistan is a young country. But the roots of this vast land are ancient.
For centuries, this area of land was a major crossroads along the Silk Road – an age-old trading route that stretched all the way from China to the Mediterranean. Samarkand, one of three major cities dotted along the road, contains so many architectural feats from this period that it has been classed entirely as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. See for yourself at the Registan, a wide plaza bordered by three mosaic-covered madrassas (religious schools) with bright turquoise domes. To the west, Bukhara offers similarly impressive landmarks, including the ruins of a 5th-century royal compound known as the Ark, while the walled city of Khiva further north is the most remote but best-preserved of the Silk Road cities. Here you’ll find stunning mosques, mausoleums and palaces towering over a labyrinth of streets. But there’s more to Uzbekistan than ancient history. Tashkent, the urban capital in the eastern region, is refreshingly cosmopolitan, while in the far north you can visit the Aral Sea – formerly one of the world’s largest lakes now on the verge of disappearing completely.
Hotels and guesthouses are aplenty in the capital, as well as in the Silk Road cities. Accommodation is quite limited elsewhere.

Everything about this hotel was wonderful, but first and foremost - the staff were simply amazing. Kind, considerate, helpful, with a million touches big and small that made the experience memorable. I felt like an honored guest. When coupled with a great location, comfortable beds (with hard and soft options!), a great terrace, and a tour of the historic touches in the facilities, it really could not have gotten better. A big thanks to the wonderful team and I'm looking forward to connecting again on my next visit.

Meros Hotel features a garden, shared lounge, a terrace and restaurant in Bukhara.
Guest review
This hotel is wonderful in every way. It is beautifully crafted in the style of local palaces and the family that own it are simply gorgeous, the lady speaks amazing English, the children are charming and even their young British Blue cat is supremely cute😂
The staff are always on hand and are genuinely friendly and go out of their way to ensure you make the most of your time - on hand at breakfast (which is superb 👌) to explain the food and to look after you.
Also, laundry is charged at only 10,000 Som per item. The hotel in Khiva charged 20-45,000 per item, depending on what it was.

The hotel is very new. The design is modern yet with local flair, and makes for a very attractive aesthetic overall. Room itself was large, clean and comfortable. The staff went above and beyond providing incredible personal service throughout my unfortunately short stay, setting up a wonderful breakfast spread. All staff involved were attentive, considerate and kind. Value for money is unmatched here. This hotel is a main attraction for my return to Bukhara.

Featuring a bar, Khiva Siyovush Hotel is situated in Khiva. Boasting room service, this property also provides guests with a restaurant.
Guest review
The location is excellent - quiet place but it's a walking distance to every attraction in Khiva. But what makes this hotel exceptional is the service - they were very helpful and tried to accomadate all our requests. We've got a oom with exceptional view from balcony. The room was clean with enough space. Breakfast was perfect. At the end they organised transfer to the airport at very reasonable price.

Great place to stay. Only downside is that from the hotel the main square is almost 3 km away. Since there is no public transportation you need to either walk or take a taxi.
