Just south of Sicily, Malta is a small archipelago of three islands but packs in prehistoric temples, a thriving capital and turquoise waters flowing onto white-sand beaches. Located on Malta Island, the ancient capital city of Valletta is described by UNESCO as ‘one of the most concentrated historic areas in the world’. Like a fine wine, the city has improved with age; its Roman Catholic cathedral flanked by an array of museums, shopping areas and 16th-century mansions converted into bars and restaurants. Other must-see attractions include the Hypogeum – a prehistoric burial site unearthed in 1902 – and the Megalithic temples which can be observed on both Malta and Gozo island. Malta’s rural beauty makes it perfect for all sorts of activities, such as hiking along the Gozo coast, sailing past secluded caves or diving amongst shipwrecks. If you’d rather ride a wave than dive below one, then numerous surfing spots are available, including Palm Beach, St. Thomas and Ghallis on the north shores of Malta. Comino is Malta’s smallest island but still worth a visit by any means. Its main draw is the Blue Lagoon – a huge pool of crystal-clear water on the uninhabited islet of Cominotto. The staff is really the shining star of this hotel.
I wish I could remember the name of the gentleman who assisted me on my arrival on May 30th - because he was so exceptional (it wasn't the manager who wasn't there). Either way - exceptional hotel. Gorgeous rooftop with a view of the harbour. Also the unique character of the former Palazzo really shines through.
There's a ferry service at the door of the hotel to take you to Valletta which is quite fun. And Birgu itself is charming and historical. I nice change from the more over-touristed pace of Valletta.

I recently stayed at the Balcony Hotel in St. Julian’s, and I can honestly say it was one of the most wonderful experiences I’ve had while traveling. From start to finish, everything about this place made me feel comfortable, relaxed, and genuinely happy.
The location of the hotel is absolutely perfect. It’s right in the heart of St. Julian’s, close to everything – shops, restaurants, beaches, nightlife – yet it’s peaceful and quiet when you’re inside. You can explore the town on foot and still return to a calm and relaxing atmosphere at the end of the day.
One of the highlights for me was the room itself, especially the bathroom, which was surprisingly large and very clean. The space felt bright, modern, and well taken care of, and it had everything I needed for a pleasant stay. I also appreciated the option to cook my own meals – the setup was practical and made me feel right at home.
What truly stood out, though, was the staff, especially the owner/manager. He was incredibly kind, welcoming, and helpful throughout my entire stay. You can really feel that the people here care about their guests. Every interaction was warm and genuine, and that made a huge difference in how enjoyable the experience was. It’s rare to feel this kind of hospitality – personal, friendly, and honest.
All in all, I’m just extremely grateful. Staying at the Balcony Hotel made my time in St. Julian’s even more special. I left feeling relaxed, recharged, and genuinely happy. If you’re looking for a place that combines an ideal location, great rooms, and the warmest people, I can’t recommend this hotel enough.
