Volcanoes, ice caves, hot springs, Northern Lights, waterfalls, glaciers, spouting geysers. It's hard to imagine all these natural wonders on one island with a population of around 300,000. Iceland's otherworldly landscape is a fitting setting for the Vikings who once inhabited the 'land of ice and fire'. Take a drive around Iceland's ring road in a 4x4 and you'll feel like you're on another planet. One minute you'll be cruising past the tumbling waters of Gullfoss and the next you'll be alongside the eerily beautiful black-sand beach of Vik. Don't leave without taking a dip in a hot spring. If you want to avoid the crowds of the Blue Lagoon, other options include Mývatn in the north and the hot streams of the Reykjadalur valley. The elusive Northern Lights feature on many a bucket list. There's no sure way to see them but it’s more likely during the winter months between September and April. Although it’s a lively city, you can see most of Reykjavik in a couple of days, and it’s secondary to the natural wonders the rest of the island has to offer. Main sights include the towering Hallgrímskirkja Church and the National Museum exhibiting the country's compelling history and culture. As the capital, Reykjavik offers the biggest choice of accommodation with a variety of hostels, hotels and apartments. A number of cosy guesthouses are dotted along the ring road but note that many are closed during the winter months.

the hotel was prefect located for our trip. the place is amazing in all aspects. the view, the comfortable rooms, the price, the hot-tub outside, the dining room with the view, and the team which was kind and very open for requests. Breakfast was quite basic but good enough for all of us! my wife and 4 kids climbed on the mountain in front of the hotel for morning astonishing adventure.

The view is amazing, on the 13th floor with a great view directly East (remember that the sun). We've seen the sunrise when eating breakfast in the room.
The bed is very big and the place is walking distance to the city center.

The location of the hotel is in a remote and wonderful landscape and i think that makes your stay in Iceland more authentic. Also the personal is very friendly and breakfast was really delicious with fresh baked bred and local products. We stayed during our trip in 6 accommodations and this was by far the most beautiful. The rooms are very spacious and everything was very clean and comfortable. Through the big windows you can enjoy an amazing view with the fjord.
Also because you are in a remote place you have great chances to see the magical northern lights.

After chatting with the lady who works there, we understood the hotel is actually a fishing club and doesn’t open for public in the fishing season. We were lucky! By the way, the hot water here was real hot spring from the underground. Very nice place!

Reykjavik Residence combines hotel services with self-catering apartments that offer flat-screen TVs, free Wi-Fi and modern kitchen facilities.
Guest review
We stayed in the building that houses the reception desk and our room was bright and comfortable and simply huge compared to all the other hotels we stayed at while visiting Iceland. The building appears to be newly renovated and it is in a super convenient location, mere steps away from the main shopping street and within walking distance of many sights, bars, and restaurants. The breakfast basket provided a hearty start to the day and the bread was outstanding. We would not hesitate to stay there on a return visit to Reykjavik.

We arrived early and were kindly allowed to check-in early. We were given a perfect recommendation for dinner that certainly didn't disappoint. The gentleman who greeted us was very kind, warm and interested in our travels. He was very attentive and friendly. The view from our room was the best view we had had the whole trip!
