The room was a good size with a lovely bathroom as well as a nice outside porch area to sit and watch the wildlife. Leel was super helpful and was there for every need. His family make good authentic Sri Lankan food (but can also tone down the spice level if needs like us!). Leel arranged a safari for us and we saw loads of wildlife, including lots of elephants.

Great stay, the owner was very friendly and helpful, he arranged safari for us, and we really enjoyed it. The room was clean, nothing to complain about.

We had an excellent time staying at Silent River Cottage. Amila was incredibly helpful with organising a safari and providing advice on sites to visit in Udawalawe. Furthermore, make sure you have breakfast and dinner here. Nadeeka made the best food we had in Sri Lanka and did not skimp out on the portions! The immediate area surrounding River Cottage is exceptional, we viewed a peaceful Buddhist temple, saw over 300 Indian Flying Foxes fleeing the nest at sunset and enjoyed a refreshing swim in Amila’s river.

Very good accommodation with a very welcoming family, the food is amazing, and the safari with Gayan was incredible! Thank you to this family for their kindness and hospitality.

The room was pristine and well equipped, with WiFi, AC, hot showers, mosquito nets and comfortable beds. The hosts were super friendly and welcoming and spoke very good English. The garden is beautiful and immaculately maintained, it really was a green paradise. The food was delicious, we tasted lots of different traditional Sri Lankan dishes with generous portions provided. The aubergine curry was a particular highlight. Highly recommend booking your Safari through the hosts, we did and it was a treat. Our guide was fantastic and he joyfully shared his knowledge and passion for animals with us. We saw lots of Elephants including babies and many other animals and birds, which we think was only possible due to his local knowledge. Don’t miss your chance to stay here if you’re in the area.

Prashan is a truly exceptional host, so kind and thoughtful. Everything is done with care, from the cozy fire in the evening to the delicious food by the water. It felt like a little paradise and was honestly the highlight of our trip to Sri Lanka. The food was so incredible, we could come back just for that! The place combines with hospitality and the food will truly be missed. The great extra bonus was the safari tour orgazined here, perfect not following all the other jeep, smooth driving for the kid and exceptional wild view.
