There is also a seating area and a fireplace. I had a perfect trip in Toraja, and it mostly owes to the perfect hosts. They prepared everything with care, showed me the good restaurants, helped me planning the trip, and even took me to a funeral, where I met their bigger family who are all great people. The bed was comfy, and sleeping under the roof hearing the rain was soothing (I have phobia of rain but this time I was calm). The little place is well decorated, fits the vibe of the hosts couple. The moment I met them I knew I got to get a good trip, that’s how they made me feel. I arrived early and left late, but they always welcomed me and had me a place to rest.

I had a traditional Torajan home all to myself and it felt so special. The place was extremely clean, had all I needed. It is part of a typical Torajan family's compound. Aldi, the host went out of his way to help and assist me with everything. He even waited for us until late at night (and I felt horrible about it, because it was like 1.30 AM when I arrived), as I was driving from Makasar and arrived later than expected. He organized a 2 day tour with Mr. Ino (also recommended), who showed me around the main sights at VERY reasonable cost. The place was spotless, comfortable, and felt like I was in a documentary. Absolutely recommended. As for Tana Toraja.... it is a unique corner of our world. Make sure you spend at least 2 days there to see everything. Ask for Ino's services.

The food they offered us was delicious. The best thing was the people who run it: they are lovely and offer you everything they have. We felt in love with the experience. We felt at home and they treated us as if we were their family.

Best part is the owner Wila. He's very friendly and has a lot of knowledge from the surrounding area and is keen on giving insight into toraja culture and we spoke with him for a long time. He also has his little cafe in which he sells his own grown coffee and there's the possibility that he also shows you his plantation which is just behind the bungalows. He was very helpful in gathering information for us on when and where the death ceremonies would take place and provided many tips on customs, do's and don'ts so we could arrange everything ourselves with scooters. At one point he also offered us home-cooked food from his mother that lives nearby in one of the traditional houses. PS: For those interested he also offers guided tours where he joins you, he seemed very knowledgeable from the get-go so it's definitely a good option.
