We enjoyed the self-guided walking tour of the historic centre, and the waterfall hike in Marmoth Private Reserve. The attractive town centre was very quiet after seven o,clock and there is not much in the way of '' nightlife'' but things liven up during the daytime - good supermarkets and shops are available, with take away options like Wimpy, Steers and KFC, together with several excellent a la carte restaurants and scenic lunch spots which were fantastic - plus the Bee and honey shop - but we felt three nights in the town was one night too many - even though we enjoyed our stay here. Two nights would be enough to explore the local area in our opinion, before moving on along the Garden Route or down to the coast to Cape Agulhas or Hermanus.

Comfortable, safe little town with much to offer, two nights minimum stay I would suggest. Very convenient also as a stopover on the way back to Capetown, or indeed travelling in the opposite direction.

Swellendam is a stunning town.

Swellendam is a stunning town. All the comforts you need are there and at the same time you can get away into the mountains and outer areas. There are good restaurants and coffee shops and great activities around the area. Mountain biking is what I would go for, but our stay was too short. Lots of history and my family and I were surprised at what this town had to offer. We normally just drive past, but was great to stay over.

A beautiful little town with a lot to see, do and eat. The restaurants are top notch. We ate at De Vagebond for Supper their food was fantastic with great and friendly service, then we had breakfast at La Belle Alliance their view, food and service were tops. We also had a breakfast at Aan de Eike Guest House, it is a beautiful modern restaurant with lekker food and friendly service. The town is so clean and absolutely beautiful. We love going there. Activities for big and small go to the Fairy Garden. Swellendam is definitely a town to visit!

We had a perfect stay. Great communication by Lidia the owner via WhatsApp, she even booked a restaurant in town for our dinner. Lidia and her husband were at the property to greet us and give us all the tips about the area. Our room was very spacious, most comfortable bed. English breakfast included in our price. We wouldn't stay at any other place next time we drop by Swellendam.

Fantastic host! The house is huge, and so comfortable. We absolutely loved the outdoor entertainment area, with the comfiest outdoor day beds I've ever felt. The scenery is stunning with lots of wildlife. A really brief ride to Swellendam town centre which has great restaurants and coffee!

Beautiful house with all the amenities one might need (air fryer included). The area is vast and the views stunning. So much space to explore and enjoy, by foot, bicycle or 4x4. The river with canoes is wonderful. The farm dogs are too sweet and well-behaved. So much to love! Will be back.

We had a wonderful warm welcome from Etienne on arrival, and a fantastic dinner spot recommendation. Our stay in Swellendam was just an overnight stop as we drove up the Garden Route. It's a pity we were unable to enjoy all of what Cypress Cottage has to offer.
