Beautiful and tranquil little lodge in a private reserve teeming with wildlife. We had breakfast and dinners at the onsite restaurant and food was bountiful and delicious. Staff were hospitable and warm - they even baked a birthday cake for the celebration of our child. The reserve was family friendly, and we had alot of good sightings of giraffes, zebras and kudus amongst many others.

Literally everything was great! I could not have wished for a better way to experience the South African hospitality and the bush life. Thanks to our hosts Nyarai and Tawanda, who took great care of us and our wishes/needs before and during our stay, we had a carefree and super comfortable experience. The safaris and tours they booked for us were amazing and really saved us a lot of time looking for good and reliable tour guides. Leave it to them, they really know what they are doing and they will not disappoint! The foods prepared by the chefs were amazing, a true pleasure for the tastebuds. Gluten free dinners were no problem at all and it was much more than just some plain and simple dishes, but truly culinary treats for the soul. The room was in super condition, modern but with respect for the bush surrounding the area. Very good and modern amenities inside the room and the lodge. Sometimes some animals passed the accommodation and that really felt like watching a documentary, but then in real life. Even being able to watch the animals passing by from our bed through the big glass sliding door is something that never gets boring. Great swimming pool and watch tower from where you could see the surrounding area and witness the beautiful sunrise while listening to the peaceful animal sounds coming to life more and more every minute it gets lighter. After dinner we had camp fires, where we could sit and enjoy each other’s company. This was a huge plus because these moments create the best conversations and memories with each other. All together we can say that this is something we will talk about for a very long time. There is much more to see here and the staff made us feel like family, so both are definitely worth coming back and we definitely will. We give this place an 11 out of 10!

We thought we were only going to crash for a night after a long flight and before starting a safari the next day, but we were absolutely mind blown by how amazing everything was. Perfect location in the middle of what is called "Wildlife Estate" which gives you a chance to see wild animals strolling nearby (we almost saw all the same animals we saw on the safari strolling around the lodge), this is an astounding place with a beautiful room which makes you feel you're in a dream! Last but not least - Ruan and Jenny were very friendly and informative on things to do, and even gave us recommendations about Cape Town which was our next stop. For a small fee, we pre-arranged dinner (which was delicious and cooked by one of their chefs) and transfer from the Hoedspruit airport as well. Communication was easy and Ruan was very responsive. It was such a shame that we only spent one night - had we known how calm and beautiful it all was, we would have 100% extended our stay. So sad to have left but I rave about it. There couldn't have been a more perfect welcome to South Africa.

A great location for some rest and relaxation.

A great location for some rest and relaxation. I went on a Big 5 safari game drive, and got to see the animals up close. I also had a heavenly spa experience at Karuna, and visited the nearby reptile park to see some rare snake species. Lots of restaurants around to try out a variety of meals, I went to the Club House and had tasty ribs. Then the breakfast at Aragula is to die for.

Great central point for exploring the Kruger Park, private...

Great central point for exploring the Kruger Park, private game reserves, Blyde River Canyon and many other spots in the region. Many lodges to choose from, tours, charters, restaurants, shopping centers in the town. Agricultural hotspot, with many mango and citrus farms, plus macadamia and avocado farms nearby.

Impressive little town with lots to do in town and in surrounding areas. The town had great little shops and amazing restaurants with lovely ambiance and views. It felt clean and the roads recently tarred. The grass of the game reserves' boundaries next to the main roads were all cut which looked well kept and neat. It was just disappointing that it was not possible to do self drives or walks inside any of the surrounding game reserves unless you were staying in the reserve. The Kruger was your only option. My favourite restaurants were the Blue Mountain restaurant, The Argula Experience at Zandspruit and Aerotel. Great trips in the surrounding area were Blyde river canyon boat excursion, Mango Mohlatsi and Maholoholo rehabilitation centre. Had a great trip to the Kruger Park entering at the Orpen gate and taking the Timbavati road to Olifants camp and the river dirt road to Letaba and exiting via the Phalaborwa gate. Saw lots of game following the dirt roads next to the rivers.

I did not stay at Hoedspruit - just used the airport for...

I did not stay at Hoedspruit - just used the airport for transfer to camps. The airport is very small and hot - no fans or air conditioning - but efficient and the staff is friendly. No problems. Very small shop. No cafeteria or restaurant.

A heaven for animal lovers as you get to see them in all forms. Excellent town with all the amenities you need for a vacation or to escape the pressures of the city. There are also several interesting stops one can make along the way, such as the Museum of Men or Echo Caves, when driving from the Mpumalanga side.

It is a lovely laid back town with plenty of wildlife experiences Our experience at HESC was memorable with our awesome guide Heike The town has local coffee shops curios and is close to Kruger park and wonderful panoramic drives. Shops like Pick n Pay and Spar are also here for those who have self-catering accommodation
