We loved the quirkiness of the hotel that was its real charm. The art on the walls and all the decor had real charm and character. There is a proper bar area where on one evening they had a very good pianist playing. You definitely get the feeling that the hotel is something of a hub for the village and community and a lot of activity centres around it. Some of the rooms are bigger and nicer than others, and we were able to change ours to a nicer more spacious one. Staff were very accommodating and helpful and we’re able to advise and arrange lots for us to do- on that don’t miss a dip in the local fresh water river - a wonderful start to our day! Breakfast was really delicious with lots of variety. Garden and pool area was very pretty and a lovely place to relax as well.

Absolutely awesome spot if you're passing through Barrydale. We were driving down route 62 and spent some time in the surrounding area. This was one of the most well equipped and lovely little spots I've stayed at over the years. Wish we had been here longer. Great location, quite, clean and beautiful. The cottage had all we needed and some very nice extras including the indoor fireplace we ended up needing to use as it was a chilly night. Would highly recommend for a couple passing through this way.

If you are someone who follows the crowd then this motel is probably not for you. If however you want somewhere slightly different and memorable then book before someone else does. Situated in a renovated house the motel has 2 distinctive rooms. The one we stayed in was full of shabby chic furniture artfully put together much of which gave it a unique and quirky feel. The bed was exceptionally comfortable and the rooms were spotlessly clean. We. had our own sitting room,dinning area, kitchen space( no cooker but microwave) and an excellent shower room with plenty of hot water and small terrace. It forms part of the Diesel and Crème cafe which is a destination on Route 62 in its own right. See separate review. It is also amazing value for money. Book if you can.

Unfortunately, we were there on a Monday and most...

Unfortunately, we were there on a Monday and most restaurants close at 17:00 on a Monday. However, our host recommended we have dinner at the Karoo Art Hotel with a choice of fine dining or pub dinner. We choose pub dinner, which was delicious. Beautiful trail walks can be found around the farms. All-in-all a wonderful trip.

Lovely quiet country village.

Lovely quiet country village. Interesting little shops & great 2nd hand bookshop. Great walks/hikes & excellent restaurants (highly recommend "Mud"). Lots of interesting history.

Route 62 is a great drive and Barrydale is a convenient...

Route 62 is a great drive and Barrydale is a convenient distance from Cape Town for a stop, The village is small but has interesting places to visit. Arrive in time to look round and leave the next by lunchtime the next day - that's all the time you need but it's worth taking time to stop and look round. We found it a friendly place and were not pestered by beggars.

I love that the people there have old school charm, honest...

I love that the people there have old school charm, honest and down to earth. The arty vibe and friendliness stand out for me. If you love reading as I do, it is just perfect. Peaceful, relaxed and lovely. Great architecture in town and amazing rock formations and plants on the outskirts. It just has so much interesting facets.

Lot's a quirky spots to visit, some great food, and perfect for walks and biking. Diesel and creme was a hit, food was great. Karoo hotel is great spot too for a dinner or to watch some sport. Ronnie's Sex Shop can only be believed once seen! We didn't stay long, but I'm not sure how much there was for kids to do in the area.

I've known Barrydale for decades and it has mostly retained its quaintness and country charm. A lively little town with interesting shops and restaurants, close to places like Warmwaterberg (hot spring) and a good stop-over between George and Cape Town.

It had a real colonial feel. We were the only ones there so perfect for a 1 night stop over. Mid way point between Stellenbosch and Wilderness. The host, Nicola, was super friendly and make us feel very welcome. Perfect little kitchen area within the room with homemade jam and pate. A rare find. Host also booked us a table at the local hotel for dinner, just a short walk. Also a fabulous find. Loved it.

Sorry to say that there was a number of other guests in close proximity to our room who made a lot of noise. There was a family with children who were very boisterous into the late evening and a number of guests in Barrydale for a high school gathering who were up late and making a noise on the other side of our room. Very unfortunate as our previous stay at Sandy's place was very good indeed.

We were blown away. Uwe is an amazing host. On arrival we were spoilt with fabulous coffee and apple cake. Everything is done so tastefully. He welcomed us into his beautiful home and treated us like family without overstepping the boundaries. The recommendations for visits into Barrydale were spot on; and breakfast was AMAZING. What a gentleman.

The location was really convenient; only 6 minutes outside Barrydale, so we could pop in and see a few things there. The place is so rustic which is exactly what we like. Views were outstanding and we really had a relaxing time. Cerise was a fantastic host and sharing local things to do and keeping us up to date.
