Absolutely delightful place to stay. Comfortable and unique with a ton of charm. Also well-positioned in town where it's easy to walk to where you want to go. Would highly recommend to stay here! If you are someone who follows the crowd then this motel is probably not for you. If however you want somewhere slightly different and memorable then book before someone else does. Situated in a renovated house the motel has 2 distinctive rooms. The one we stayed in was full of shabby chic furniture artfully put together much of which gave it a unique and quirky feel. The bed was exceptionally comfortable and the rooms were spotlessly clean. We. had our own sitting room,dinning area, kitchen space( no cooker but microwave) and an excellent shower room with plenty of hot water and small terrace. It forms part of the Diesel and Crème cafe which is a destination on Route 62 in its own right. See separate review. It is also amazing value for money. Book if you can.

Unfortunately, we were there on a Monday and most restaurants close at 17:00 on a Monday. However, our host recommended we have dinner at the Karoo Art Hotel with a choice of fine dining or pub dinner. We choose pub dinner, which was delicious. Beautiful trail walks can be found around the farms. All-in-all a wonderful trip.

Lovely quiet country village.

Lovely quiet country village. Interesting little shops & great 2nd hand bookshop. Great walks/hikes & excellent restaurants (highly recommend "Mud"). Lots of interesting history.

Route 62 is a great drive and Barrydale is a convenient...

Route 62 is a great drive and Barrydale is a convenient distance from Cape Town for a stop, The village is small but has interesting places to visit. Arrive in time to look round and leave the next by lunchtime the next day - that's all the time you need but it's worth taking time to stop and look round. We found it a friendly place and were not pestered by beggars.

I love that the people there have old school charm, honest...

I love that the people there have old school charm, honest and down to earth. The arty vibe and friendliness stand out for me. If you love reading as I do, it is just perfect. Peaceful, relaxed and lovely. Great architecture in town and amazing rock formations and plants on the outskirts. It just has so much interesting facets.

Lot's a quirky spots to visit, some great food, and perfect for walks and biking. Diesel and creme was a hit, food was great. Karoo hotel is great spot too for a dinner or to watch some sport. Ronnie's Sex Shop can only be believed once seen! We didn't stay long, but I'm not sure how much there was for kids to do in the area.

I've known Barrydale for decades and it has mostly retained its quaintness and country charm. A lively little town with interesting shops and restaurants, close to places like Warmwaterberg (hot spring) and a good stop-over between George and Cape Town.

On, a rather late, evening arrival we walked into the cosy, welcoming cottage of The Karoo Kaven. We could enjoy delicious coffee, and put something quick on the braai. The hot shower and very comfortable bed was heaven. The rest of the weekend was spent exploring Barrydale and cooling off in the quiet garden, experiencing the Karoo at its best. Karoo Kaven is a gem, we were amazed at the preparation the owners must've put in. We never needed something, not thought of and ready to be used. We had such a blessed weekend.

It’s beautiful, its natural its just lovely!! We live on a farm as-well, but this was just magical. We loved the sheep family roaming up and down the hill.. the free roaming chickens and the all the other amazing birds (including owls). The host keeps in touch about things to do in Barrydale .. just amazing.
