Food was absolutely wonderful. Staff were amazing - friendly, efficient and professional. Having spent countless days in the South African bush, this was a step above it all. To have a game ranger like Martin conducting our twice daily drives was the “cherry on the top”. His lovely attitude, enthusiasm and incredible knowledge makes the Safari Lodge a definite return location.

We had three fantastic days at Amakhala Game Reserve, Bush Lodge. The tents were very comfortable and the food very good. The game drives were amazing. Our game driver Jono did a super job. very enthusiastic, very knowledgeable information given during the drives and he was fantastic at spotting the animals and very dedicated to making sure we saw as much and varied as possible.

Everything about this whole experience was phenomenal. We had no expectations but what we saw and did was beyond our comprehension. We are very grateful to have the opportunity that Quartermaine’s provides. We got 4 game drives, unexpectedly 3 of these was just us with the guides Liam and David as the other 4 guests were out on walking trail. These guides are extremely knowledgeable, great people and sense of humour. Went out of their way to make it all memorable. Our game drives were fantastic, with 2 very close encounters with the Elephant Herd and later Lion immediately beside or around us. Saw all the other animals at close range too. The animals and scenery were unforgettable, we appreciated stopping at the middens of early human camps. Full explanations of all the animals and plants When we had a bit of rain and wind, we got rain ponchos, blankets, even hot water bottles. The camp itself was very 1920s authentic with twists of luxury. The Hot tubs under South Afrikan skies - sensational. Loved all the food cooked on the fires, the home made bread & food, delicious. Hot and cold drinks and snacks are available at all times, even on drives with amazing views. The Lions roaring at night and the Elephant outside our tent at night added extra thrill, always felt safe though. We don’t have the words to describe the experience or to say thank you enough. I understand now why people keep returning - we also hope too. Not enough room for all the great photos. THANK YOU 🙏 from 2 very grateful New Zealanders x

We loved everything about the property. With only 3 suites it is very peaceful and personal, just what we were looking for. We were made to feel very special during our stay, from the moment we arrived with the short game drive from the car park to the little touches like the chocolates and Induli bracelets on our pillows and the hot chocolate with amarula after the game drive. The hot water bottles for the chilly morning game drives were another unexpected treat. We enjoyed getting to know the staff. Bulela was very knowledgeable about the animals and plants and we really enjoyed his company on the game drives. Thando looked after us very well, always there to greet us and refill our drinks. Elmarie’s food was delicious and we loved chatting to her when she came out of the kitchen. It was great to meet Matt & Anne, the owners and on one evening Matt shared a drink with us and told us all about their dream of Induli and how it came to be. We have been on several safaris and we loved this one the most. We can’t thanks the team enough for giving us such a special and memorable stay We will be back

EVERYTHING, the staff Stanley the ranger was amazing, as were all the rest of the staff. The animals, food, accommodation, our fabulous welcome. It was our first visit to SA and a game reserve it was amazing. The highlight of our 3 week holiday was meeting Tahboh ( sorry if not correct spelling) of the orphaned cheetah. One of the most amazing things I’ve done.

I believe there are around eight lodges working Amakhala and it doesn't seem congested but seems just the right size. The amount of different animals to be seen no congestion of game run trucks is great

The staff at Amakhala were very friendly and helpful.

The staff at Amakhala were very friendly and helpful. The food was excellent. the room was large and when you came back after the second safari they had turned the lights on. folded down the beds and put the heating on. That is a really great touch from the staff. The Park Rangers were very good. We had Jessie and he was very informative and had a great sense of humour. He really did his best to find the animals we all wanted to see and made it a special experience.

Amakhala Game Reserve is a haven for wild animals and a brilliant place for a safari. Many of the animals used to roam the land 100 years ago before the land was used for farming. In the early 2000's the land was returned to its natural habitat and the animals reintroduced, with the aim of conservation and breeding of endangered species. As it is in a malaria-free area, it is the perfect location for a safari for people who get bitten by mozzies! There were only a few jeeps out on drives at any time, so you rarely come across other people. There are several lodges in the reserve to choose as your base (we stayed at Safari Lodge, which was brilliant).

Beautiful place, well managed where the staff have massive respect for the animals and care for them, from a respectful distance. Not too many people out on the drives at once which is good as some reserves can get quite crowded - shows good management. Saw all the animals we could have hoped for and got to witness some amazing things, from a close but safe distance. Amazing. Relatively easy to get to too. It is a dirt road leading up to the lodge but easy to navigate even in a very small car which is what we had. Great experience.

A beautiful and well managed reserve.

A beautiful and well managed reserve. The landscape and different biomes are interesting to see and the wildlife are abundant. It is not crowded and made us like we where to only people there. Its clear to see that are leaders in conservation management and community engagement.
