Wonderfully designed hotel with a wonderful staff just 1 minute from the beautiful beach. The room feels luxurious and comfortable, with great decoration and wooden furniture. The restaurant and pool area are beautiful and relaxing. The yoga classes are a nice bonus and the food in the restaurant is delicious with most dishes served generously. The cocktails are recommended. The best part is the dedicated staff, both at reception, the restaurant, the security and the cleaning staff. Particular thanks go to Sharif, Mongola, Shumu and Frida, and to the wonderful cleaning team with their attention to details. A great place for celebrating a special occasion!

Room No.3 has the best sea view, east oriented so you are everyday woke up with a sunrise. The kitchen is absolutely top notch, we tried few another in other parts of Zanzibar, nothing competitive at all. Staff is super friendly, they give you a feeling of relax, happiness and chilling vibe. Definitely go visit the village on quads and buy some school accessories for a local kids. We had a great stay at Salama with Paco and Maria. We were very well welcomed, they truly looked after us. We were positively surprised with the facilities in general, they have 3 pools, a lovely restaurant (with great food), our room had its own table outside overlooking the pool. Everything was great.

Matemwe is a perfect destination for anyone who wants peace and quiet, but still has access to great activities. You can easily arrange dolphin watching and swimming tours – look for Captain Lucho, he helped us with everything and made the experience amazing. A beautiful and relaxing place to stay!

Matemwe was nice - the beach part.

Matemwe was nice - the beach part. Sad to see the poverty behind the gates of the hotel. The tides were a bit different from what we have expected as the water would leave the beach at 9am and return around 5pm. If you did not make it to swim early in the morning, you missed it. We took a reef walk which was beautiful, saw a lot of see creatures, and that was very amazing experience. Also took a boat tour to see the sunset - it was worth the trip. Did not like how the locals would just stop on the beach and start shouting at you to buy smth. Also the part of the hotel beach is not segregated in any way, which does not give you a privacy enough. The food was amazing though - the hotel goes much beyond - and all day brekfast concept was amazing.

Matemwe is ideal for relaxing and spending quality time with friends and family. Matemwe is near Mnemba island 🏝️ for swimming with dolphins 🐬 . We rode bicycles 🚲 around the village and the place felt very safe. There are few alternative places for lunch or dinner. Not too far from stone town.

The snorkeling was a true adventure, with well-protected marine life and crystal-clear water. Spotting the dolphins was an unexpected bonus! Visiting the sea turtle rehabilitation center and feeding them was a special experience.

Matemwe beach was huge and totally uncrowded - some days we were lucky to see 10 - 20 people pass by! Loved the Massai beach hawkers - friendly and laid back happy to have their pictures taken - no hassle or relentless chasing - once told 'no' they respected our space. Recommend a day trip to Nungwi for a completely different vibe and fantastic sunset. Matemwe is somewhat isolated and if you want to get around you need to secure the number of a local taxi driver - always bargain hard beforehand. Most hotels organise trips/tours but at a premium.

It was a quieter beach which was nice which also meant not too many people hassling you to buy things. Those that did were respectful. Beach is nice but the sea depth is very shallow most of the day so swimming wasn't the easiest and there was a lot of seaweed when we were there.

The hotel was perfect - room, swimming pool, garden beach area beautiful, comfortable and spacious. The dinning experiences great, even a smallest issue we had, was dealt with quickly to more than our satisfaction. All the staff at the hotel had only one wish - to ensure you had best service from them. All the senior staff like the catering managers, head chefs (Ashok and Jimmy and the rest) were always going around ensuring the guests were satisfied. We would highly recommend this hotel.

The staff is friendly and welcoming and Malgo & Tomek are the best! Genuinely interested in their visitors and will go out of their way to ensure your comfort. The facility is very clean and well kept. I also really liked that the beach in Matemwe is relatively clean and no one hustling for buys.
