The hotel is a bit far from the train station, but the busses to Alishan actually stop quite near it (Wenhua Lukou), so it proved conveniently located. The room was clean and comfy, recently renovated.

The city is quite warm to the rest of the country (not sure how warm it would have been in the southern part of the country)
Not very many speaks English but it’s good to experience the country side of Taiwan.
It was too difficult to understand the transportation system as there was nothing in English. Booking public transportation to Alishan was a nightmare but a lovely lady who works in the station helped us to get the tickets from the Family Mart vending machine.
There are plenty of options to eat and there is plenty of value for money options than Taipei City. It’s pretty clean but noticed loads of homeless citizens. The city is improving and I think it is worth visiting it and probably people will because of Alishan National Park.

There are hidden gems in this city that you need to explore. Do your homework before you come then you will find this city very interesting, like i did. Only set back is the frequency of buses. However it was compensated by thr cheap and efficient taxi.
My favourite places Hinoki Village & Old Prison.
I ate at Wenhua Road Nite Market especially recommends Smartfish (Lin Chong Min Shop).

The 'hot spots' - HInoki Village, old prison, Chaiyi Park, etc. - are pleasant enough, but nothing extraordinary. The Tile Museum, however, is the most unique and interesting touristic place in my opinion.

Some pretty areas, but nothing too special.
Some pretty areas, but nothing too special. Very dense, bad traffic and packed streets for such a small town, unpleasant and difficult to get around. No rental bikes at all. Unhelpful tourism desk at the train station send me to places that had already closed and didn't have updated bus times.
Hinoki Village is very pretty and pleasant, and the nearby Jail is an interesting historical site but has no English at all. The Fine Arts museum is very beautiful and pleasant but didn't have much to see. Annoying and difficult to get anywhere due to lack of rental bikes. Annoying, sparse schedule of buses and trains to Alishan made this the only city in Taiwan where I really, really felt the need for private transportation.
Compared to other small towns in Taiwan, there wasn't that much to see and the density was worse than average, with a ton of traffic even on side streets that made exploration unpleasant.

Less bustling than the other cities in Taiwan.
Less bustling than the other cities in Taiwan. The night market here had some of the best food we had had all trip (douhua omg!). Travelling from here to Fenqihu (to go to Alishan) was easy and stress free.
The people here we're very helpful and polite, seeing that we were a little lost.

Commonly underestimated as the mere starting point for the Alishan Forest Rail express - Chiayi itself is a very friendly town with amazing fruits, nice local market vendors and pretty temples and parks to explore. Just grab a map at the tourist information when you arrive at the train station, the maps provided give you some tips for exploring the city. Would totally recommend spending a day there before heading to Alishan, you won't regret it!
While there was a negative comment on the hotel location with its distance from dining places before we checked in. Fortunately, we found an amazing hot pot restaurant serving lamb and lots of vegetables just within 10 minutes walk from the hotel. That dinner was absolutely impressive. For guests with kids, the hotel will be a wonderful venue as it got its own merry-go-round and a large lawn for kids to run around.
The room is spacious, clean, little street noise. The odd part is the bathroom sink in the room, not in the bathroom. Breakfast is very good (typical Taiwanese cuisine, not Western), there are 10+ warm options available and some dishes change daily. Apparently the breakfast is served in 2 sessions: 7am-8:30am and 8:30am-10am. I have been assigned the latter session during the check-in.
Located midway between night market and train station, getting to hotel is quite simple. We've got a free upgrade to room with sofa. Rooms are spacious with lots of space to pack suitcases. Toilets are separated into wet and dry area with the sink outside so there is no need to queue up to use the washroom.
Great location and super comfortable, met some lovely people there as well. Very easy going place and I felt at home for the two nights I was there. Very close the train station, perfect if you plan on taking day trips to Alishan. Right across the road from the Chiayi Art Museum which is worth a visit.
The appearance of the hotel, the hall, and the texture of the room are beyond expectations (in terms of business hotels in Chiayi City), clean and tidy, and the location of the hotel is not a busy area, so it is very quiet, about 15-20 minutes walk from the Wenhua Night Market
Lovely little hotel in the centre of Chiayi, close to restaurants, train station, supermarket and the night market!
The room and the bathroom were clean and the view out of the windows was lovely!
The Internet was good, and the rooms were soundproof.
Great value! Hotel is just as in the pictures. Lots of fancy things to see. Build quality is higher than average. Complimentary breakfast including salad and decent coffee. On site parking. Everything works well
This hotel has it all! We got the kid friendly rooms and they are in bliss. The staff is super friendly. The have on site laundry! The breakfast is great. This will be one of our favorite hotels
Big modern room. Comfortable bed, good location if driving and want to start out if Chiayi city center. Its close to highway 18, but not convenient if you don’t have your own transportation.
Clean, like the location. very near the train station. Very helpful and pleasant staff. Will recommend to my friends. I will definitely book this hotel should I return.
