Most people coming to Chiang Khong are coming for one reason only! To cross into Laos and do a two night Mekhong Cruise to Luang Prabang in Laos. If not, dont come. If so, book a two night cruise stopping overnight in Pakbeng and stay a night. This is the finest €200 2 night cruise in the world! Believe me! Very clean and comfortable stay. The place is full of green, well looked after and has a huge swimming pool (25m). The owner is very friendly and looked after our well being all the time. On request you get a delicious dinner and breakfast. The hotel is a little outside of town but has a quick access to the Mekong boardwalk and from there it is a beautiful walk along the river. A must do!

A great city to do a border run, particularly if you stay at Fortune Riverview Hotel Chiang Khong - which seems to be the nicest accommodation in the area. We enjoyed our stay here quite a bit and would return.

Chiang Khong, a lovely little town next to the river.

Chiang Khong, a lovely little town next to the river. Views are amazing and the food is good. It is not very big so staying for an extended time may be dull for some. Great for relaxing and quiet. Excellent for walking and/or riding bicycles.

I liked to have riverview.

I liked to have riverview. We had two single beds that we rearranged such that they were mire close to eachother. Not perfect but ok. For one person the bed was too hard, for the other it was good. Was great to be on the (small) balcony to look at the river, but there were no seats. I used the pool, but at the time of the day the two high building on the side avoided all sunshine to warm up the water. We also had to use our own towels from the room, one per person. Checkout was fast without checking the room. Few hours after we left, we were in Chiang Rai already, staff called us that they we left behind a watch. They agreed to send it to our home in Chiang Mai. Great service that we really appreciate.

A lovely little town on the Mekong River near the border...

A lovely little town on the Mekong River near the border with Laos. We arrived late from the Laotian slow boat and stayed overnight. We extended our stay by another night because the place is so nice. Laundry service, Thai SIM card, pharmacy, bus station for onward travel – everything you need.

The guesthouse is opposite a 7-Eleven, and the bus station...

The guesthouse is opposite a 7-Eleven, and the bus station is 700 meters away. There's a swimming pool. The prices are reasonable. The only downside is the rooster in the garden that starts crowing at 3 AM! The staff are friendly!

This is a good place to stay a night or two in chiangkong ,the view is nice,the owner is very kind and honest,the rooms are big,clean with a nice private balcony on the riverside. They even offer us toasted bread and coffe without breakfast included. they can arrange all trip to luangprabang with a reasonable price.I strongly suggest this place if you are not travelling 5stars hotel. Food stand closed by

Great location in the centre of the ‘main street’. Hotel has free bikes, which we used to cycle along the riverside. Breakfast had good choices. Not the newest hotel but comfortable and clean. Good value for £.
