FAQs about hotels in Bratislava

Capital with a Small Town Feel

Charming and compact Bratislava is the world’s only capital city bordering 2 countries – Austria and Hungary, all watered by the beautiful River Danube. South is the modern city and a peaceful forest, but the real Bratislava attractions are over Novy most (New Bridge), an impressive structure with an UFO-like pylon. The castle on a rock overlooking the Old Town offers the best views of it. The rock itself contains a Jewish cemetery and a literally underground club.

Opposite is St Martin’s Cathedral, coronation site of past Hungarian kings. The cobbled streets behind are lined with outdoor restaurants and bars. The city’s speciality is treska, a cold cod salad, washed down with white wine from the nearby Small Carpathian mountains.

The main square is Hlavne namestie, home to pastel-coloured buildings, a 14th-century town hall housing the city museum, and the Bratislava Christmas markets. Hodzovo namestie square features the Peace Earth sculpture and Baroque Grassalkovich Palace, the presidential residence guarded by the Slovak National Guard. Across the park is the Archiepiscopal Palace, seat of the government. All around are many Bratislava hotels, B&Bs and apartments available on Booking.com.

Before heading to Bratislava Airport, visit Kamzìk TV tower whose revolving restaurant and observation deck offer magnificent city views.

If you plan to visit all the expositions of the castle, this takes half a day. Don't forget the gardens - these close faster than the castle. Try the slovak food - is full of flavor, and very good for cold winter days. Flagship Restaurant and the Slovak Pub are well known restaurants, so you may queue for a table. Try Modrá Hviezda restaurant - recommend traditional guláš of vernison, even if it's $$$. Don't forget to try oravský Korbáčik - string cheese. I even saw vendomats for cheese. You can visit the city walls (Vtáčia bašta) and arrive in front of Saint Martin's Cathedral. Try to buy souvenirs from shops located outside centrum. If you want to shop some $$$ stuf, go to Eurovea center. Remember to breath while you count the steps up to Slavin memorial monument. If you want to visit Hrad Devin (castle), i recommend taking the bus (cheaper) and go in the first part of the day. Since these are ruins on Danube, it will be cold if the wind is blowing. Otherwise very nice leisure walk. And now that you need a moment to reflect on how beautiful Bratislava is, try honey wine. Medovina or Vcelovina are my favorite brands. Oh, and I visited Nov 2025 and the prices for sweets and drinks in the airport are about 2-5 euros more than the ones in city center. Totally recommend buying at the airport if you are flying with a backpack.

City can be interesting as you can clearly see the soviet legacy, plus the contrast with modern times. Food is kind of interesting. BUT, people in general is rude, service is in general very poor in this city, tellers in stores, waiters in restaurants and accommodation receptionists barely speak to you, sometimes just point at stuff or charge you and don't even say hi, thank you, not a single word and sometimes they don't even look at your face. If this city wants to really become a touristic relevant spot, they really need to work in their social skills and service to foreigners. Also, prices are high when you put them against the quality of things you get and cost of life in the city. Value for money is not good, they seem to be milking as much money as possible from the little tourism they have. I went there since I visited the city long ago one time for few hours on a day trip from Vienna, and it seemed interesting and it is only one hour away on bus or train. I should have left it there, a day trip is more than enough. Vienna is much more gentle with travellers, more interesting and much more receptive to tourism. More expensive yes, but you feel your value for money is fair, unlike Bratislava. You want to visit an ex soviet city that's interesting? Sofia, Bulgaria, dirty cheap, amazing food (outside of the main touristic street, still not too bad there though). People in this country seems to be rude because their tone of voice and sometimes limited english, but they are being gentle in their own way, they do answer to your requests to the best of their abilities, explain you food details when ordering and in general give you proper service everywhere in town.

I will go again to discover more...Generally I felt secure. There are lots of treasures to be seen. People are helpful and open to contact. In a short time I had a chance to visit some museums, sites, cafe, restaurants, shops etc. I just saw smiley faces :) Bratislava has a very effective application where you can buy unlimited ticket and it shows all stops and directions. It is very hard to be lost there. I can recommend the UFO Tower and the castle for a splendid view of the city.

Stare mesto, is the best location. River cruise are nice. Mostly we used app called BOLT (very similar to Uber in UK), as some of the attractions were far apart. Plenty to do and see, thinking to go back to explore better.

The old town is attractive and small enough to explore on foot. There is a wide choice of cafes, restaurants and bars, as well as the usual tourist gift shops. Crossing the foot bridge and walking along the Danube is very pleasant, particularly in autumn with trees in splendid colours. The Bratislava Card represents very good value if you are interested in visiting some of the museums and other attractions.

Bratislava is a small but charming city that’s perfect for a short getaway. The historic centre is really pleasant — full of cafés, restaurants, and little bars where you can just sit, relax, and take in the atmosphere. It’s a very walkable city, easy to explore without needing public transport, and you can comfortably see most of the main sights in a weekend. Overall, it’s not a place that overwhelms you with size or pace — and that’s part of its charm. It’s calm, compact, and ideal if you’re looking for a relaxed city break with good food, friendly vibes, and plenty of cozy spots to enjoy.

Arrived by bus from Vienna & crossed 30 beautiful minutes through Bratislava's old town by feet till I reached the hostel. Warm Staff & Lobby area. Hotel-feel for real from the dormitory room to the shower area. I loved the concept of the bed/cupboard in a capsule. Never seen before. And I paid little price 4 my stay, compared to the facilities offered.

A very nice business hotel in the Petržalka part of Bratislava, if you need to stay near Tyršák or simply not in the city centre and park your car somewhere. It is a nice 3 star hotel, quite simple but also comfortable. It was clean and had everything we needed for a 2 nights business trip. Would recommend.

Bratislava is a nice place, well worth several days. The hotel is perfectly placed on the edge of the old town and close to Donau. It's also a very nice old style building with nicely fitted rooms. And best of all, the personal was wonderful!
