Spectacular park and hot springs. The foliage in the park is magnificent rivalling some of the most iconic parks in the world. Quiet, close to quiet seaside town with whale watching, fishing and good food.

The best place to stay on Sao Miguel.

The best place to stay on Sao Miguel. You can easily walk to Lake Furnas and Parque Grená which has lots of waterfalls. There are thermal springs you can visit at both Terra Nostra and Poça da Dona Beija (which was great at night time). Espinha cocktail bar was lovely as was Terra Nostra Restaurant. You could spend a whole day walking around the area where there are parks with geothermal activity and a beautiful church in the centre. We ate in a lot and there are lots of lovely bakeries in the town and supermarkets.

Exceptionally nice and comfortable accommodation.

Exceptionally nice and comfortable accommodation. The accommodation was in a quiet location close to a large park, the town centre and excellent restaurants (especially a superb "Restaurante Tony's"). A free parking space on the street nearby was available even when returning from trips in the evening. The landlady was very nice, she cleaned the room every day and changed the towels every day. Cleanliness was outstanding. The room overlooking the courtyard with the pool and with access to the terrace (table, parasol, chairs) was spacious and the beds very comfortable. Breakfast on the terrace and a kettle in the room contributed to the morning comfort.

This is a rather hilly town, so it might not be ideal for...

This is a rather hilly town, so it might not be ideal for people with walking difficulties. In many of the streets the cobbled footpaths are very narrow - less than a metre wide - and many drivers go much too fast, which is scary for pedestrians. Finding a place to park near the centre is virtually impossible. I imagine a wheelchair user would struggle with the narrow, cobbled streets. However, Furnas has got lots of friendly, helpful people who seem to be happy to direct visitors to the caldeiras (hot springs) and other attractions such as the botanic gardens. If you don't speak Portuguese, you'll find many of the younger people, and those in tourist-facing businesses speak at least some "tourist English". Many of the signs in areas that are of interest to tourists are printed in Portuguese and English.

Beautiful houses in lovely park surrounded by bamboo plantation, SPA, cold swimming pool, warm jacuzzi bath, sauna and gym. Walking threw the town and the fantastic botanical garden, looking for the cozido cooking in the hot pools and relaxing in the warm thermal pools. Looking for restaurant "Tony", meals must ordered a day before.

Our stay at the apartment was incredibly comfortable! It's super clean and perfectly equipped, we noticed that this place is taken care of with a lot of heart and detail! Loved the huge windows in the salon and bedroom, both rooms point directly to the sunrise. The location is excellent! The washing machine + tumble drier and dehumidifier were a real plus, just as the cuddly blankets for the sofa. We already miss Furnas Penthouse and will be back soon!!!

Amazing location right by the lake—truly couldn’t ask for better. We had a wonderful stay at Casa dos Barcos. The house is perfectly situated, comfortable for a family, and comes with extras like kayaks and bikes, which made our visit even more enjoyable. We had a great time and genuinely believe this is one of the best places to stay in Furnas.
