Beautiful restoration of an original large city residence. Breakfast was fantastic, real quality ingredients. Restaurant looked lovely too, although it was booked out for us. Swimming pool area very nice and modern. The building looked quite plain on the outside but had lovely interesting decor when inside. Parking for our 10 motorcycles right outside the door. A gem of a place.

After some weeks on the road and working for festivals, we arrived at Peña d'Água for what was supposed to be one night of wellness, good food and a nice bed. We got so much more! At the reception we were given a warm welcome and felt immediately at ease. We enjoyed some relaxing massages and had dinner in the hotel restaurant. Sommelier Rubén gave us interesting information about both the food and the wine. The food itself was made with love and great detail, the wine, an Azorean bestseller, was sublime! After our first night it was quite rainy so we enjoyed a late breakfast, watched some movies in our room and did a tour of the the new hand lab, a wool museum and art gallery. The people from the hotel told us about a sunset party happening in the hotel the day after.. so we booked another night! This day we first went hiking on rota das faias, as the receptionist suggested, and had lunch at Cafe Central in Manteigas, after which we walked around in the glacial river Praia. When we arrived back at the hotel, we noticed a problem with our brakes. The receptionists again were so helpful and got us an appointment with a garage the day after. We then enjoyed the party, tried the local gin, had very good food and mingled with the sweet people of the hotel team, their friends and other guests. We met the family who owns the hotel and had a lovely night! Since it took more time, we booked another night, went hiking up the mountain overlooking covilha and visited Praia fluvial as suggested, yet another amazing day with great breakfast, astonishing views of Covilha and everything we could ever ask for. If you are looking for a cosy family business place to be pampered, feel close to nature and taste amazing dishes and wines, you are at the right spot! We loved everything from the atmosphere to the hotel's interior design, developed by the owners' son. Peña d'água truly deserves the highest rating.

Covilhã is a wonderful place to stay, the gateway to nature trails and stunning landscapes. Nature lovers should keep away from Torre Serra da Estrela and discover the raw beauty of this huge natural park! Very hospital, generous people. (NB: number 5 below "popular places of Covilhã" fails to include its special features)

Covilhã is very interesting to visit. Lots to see. Many restaurants and cafes. Taverna a Laranjinha is one of the best restaurants I have ever eaten in. Staff just fantastic and food excellent. Amazing interesting town.

It was a magical city!!!

It was a magical city!!! Perched on the side of a mountain with sweeping views. We felt very safe even at night. I left my wallet on a pharmacy counter and when I returned it was there. Every encounter I have with locals was very pleasant!!! For it being a college town I was surprised by how tranquil the evening were.

it is a lovely city, but be sure to visit by car. the streets are winding and steep. the views are lovely. there are several museums of interest, and they are free. the train to surrounding cities are clean, bright, and cheap. it is easy to get lost in the city. i love the various fountains.

Beautiful scenery, full of life! The people are extremely friendly and welcoming. The food is delicious, the souvenir shop at the top of the mountain has a lot of good things, and the prices are a little higher than in the city center. In the shop at the top of the mountain you can buy sheepskin products, leather and wool slippers, furs, and reasonable prices; you can also taste meat products, various sweet wines, cheeses, which is why these products are a little more expensive, but the price is only 1-2 euros more expensive. Of course, there are wines and cheeses in the small grocery stores in the city center, but it is not possible to try them. Unless you are very familiar with the taste of these products, it is better to taste them first. There is actually a Michelin restaurant here Laranjinha, which has been awarded Michelin since 2018, and the price is not expensive at all. It is very difficult to make a reservation online, but if you go to the site and arrive at 12:30 noon or 7:30 pm when it opens, you will always have a seat. Covilhã puff pastry dumplings, lamb shank stewed rice, cod scrambled eggs, and steak are all worth trying

This was our 3rd stay at the hotel, and what is lovely to see is it is the same dedicated staff. Even when we were out and about in Covilha the young barman (his wife just had a baby) he came over and introduced us to his son as if we were family. The girls on reception are very friendly and resturant staff very helpful. Would fully recommend staying here if visiting the area

Located in the mountains outside of the town Covilhâ, the Luna Hotel is an ideal location to start exploring la Serra da Estrela if you arrive like in our case from the center of Portugal. The hotel offered a very nice and delicious buffet in the evening for 25€ per person (travel time: end of october 2024). There are enough parking slots in front of the hotel for cars.

The hotel is very nicely decorated, giving a very cozy feeling and a bit of luxury. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The connection to the pool and spa area was super convenient, making it comfortable and easy to go back and forth from pool to room. The neighbouring restaurant, Açafrão was amazing, recommended by the hotel. We'll definately stay here again.

We were staying with family and a small dog. It was the best hotel we came across on our trip. Great pool, spacious rooms. Quiet day and night, we slept like babies. Super friendly staff.
