A very pleasant and beautiful village to relax in, very quiet for sleeping, with some cafes and restaurants, a market, and a paddle tennis court. Hot air ballooning events and others take place there. It's very central for exploring other villages nearby. And it's perfect for those who like horses, who can visit the Alter do Chão Stud Farm.

This town is a pleasant surprise considering what it offers and what can be visited. The tourist office provides all the necessary information. Don't forget a visit to the Alter Stud Farm (with prior booking).

Quiet and "central" location in Abrantes, Portalegre, Castelo de Vide, Crato, Ponte de Sor, Arronches. Alter do Chão National Stud Farm, daily visits by appointment except Mondays. Warm place with good food; excellent restaurant 100 meters from the Hotel Convento D'Alter.

Easy to get around the village, no parking problems.

Easy to get around the village, no parking problems. The stud farm is a must-see attraction. Friendly people. The downside is that the castle is only open on Saturday mornings, so we didn't visit it.

What an excellent little hotel! All little details were takeng care of: from breakfast room interior to towels waiting for us by the pool. We would have loved to stay for longer as this was one of the best hotel experiences we've had for a while.
