Magical place with top notch maintenance. Arriving there and walking around you lose yourself in another time. Beautiful grounds, atmosphere. Staff waived my breakfast fee when I left earlier than expected despite having it booked so excellent service as well. Playground available, paths for a nice walk too... Just a fantastic way to escape the busy working life.

Amazing hotel, great location when travelling between Germany and Poland, close to the motorway. My room was in the palace building itself, it also had a massive sitting room. Great value for money and breakfast was included in the price.

I have been in many hotels, there is a saying that "excellent and cheap" are two incompatible things, the small things of this hotel that have been specially thought of are commendable, such as free capsule coffee, free water with some delicious compliments and my 10 goes for the ergonomic pillow (hard composition) - excellent! ;) Often, even in highly rated hotels, comfort is ruined by excessively soft pillows, so nice job, guys! Respect!

Zgorzelec is only worth the trip if you are arriving from...

Zgorzelec is only worth the trip if you are arriving from Poland and want to see the German part of the town (Goerlitz) on the other side of the "Neisse" river. Apart from some Restaurants along the river close to the pedestrian bridge (Altstadtbruecke) there is not much to see or to do on the Polish side really. It's just that you can save some money when you are renting your place and eating your food on the Polish side but be careful and crosscheck the prices with your exchange-rate. Some of those Restaurants near the border make a good living off the German "tourists" for which those prices in Zloty seem cheap, but when you are Polish some of them are simply a rip-off. Just walk for another 5 minutes off the regular tourist-trail and you will find good restaurants with normal prices.

One thing to realise about the area is that Zgorzelec used...

One thing to realise about the area is that Zgorzelec used to be part of Gorlitz. They are now separated by a river but aren't really two different towns. For example there isn't really a town centre in Zygorzelec that is on the Gorlitz side. The riverside on both sides is nice but I did spend a lot of time on the German side though it was great to come back to the Pension. Prices much lower in Zygorzelec in my view.

We stayed on the Polish side and got our food on that side of the border for the sake of economy. The German side of the border is much the more beautiful, but there is a very nice restaurant riverside strip on the Polish side which offers better food and liquids.

I liked that the city wasn’t overwhelmed with tourists.

I liked that the city wasn’t overwhelmed with tourists. Beautiful city with art nouveau architecture that was easily walkable with pedestrian only streets in the old city. You can cross over the bridge between Germany and Poland and there are some nice restaurants along the river on the Polish side. Jacob’s inn was a good choice for lunch and dinner with outside seating in good weather.

The city divided in two different worlds, here begins the eastern Europe. From one side you have Slavic Poland, from other side you have Germany, very interesting to live between and to have a choice. Czech Republic is close as well and forms the mix between German and Slavic way of life and mentality. while everything was closed in Germany and CZ because of Corona rules, almost everything was open in Poland. 160 km from Prague, 160 km from Wroclaw, 220 km from Berlin, 100 km from Dresden. Nice place to escape the reality.
