I had a very nice stay at Maitai Express Tahiti. The room was clean, modern, and comfortable, with everything I needed for a short visit. The air conditioning and Wi-Fi worked perfectly, and the bed was very comfortable. The location is great — right in Papeete, close to shops, restaurants, and the ferry terminal. The staff were friendly and helpful, and check-in was fast and easy. It’s a great choice if you’re looking for a convenient, simple place to stay in the city. I would definitely come back.

Heiata was a really really lovely host. Nothing was too much trouble, she always responded really quickly and gave us recommendations for our time in Tahiti. She even left us some Easter eggs in the fridge as it was Easter weekend! The flat is really lovely, beautifully decorated with air con in the bedroom. The little balcony is great to sit outside in a morning or evening around activities and enjoy the great view. The bathroom had really lovely shampoo, conditioner, etc, the kitchen had coffee and hot chocolate etc which made everything feel a little more like home. There is all the equipment to cook yourself in the apartment too. The centre of tahiti is just a 20min walk. We hired a car and there is secure parking in the apartment grounds. We would absolutely stay here again!! We wish we could have stayed here longer!

The apartment was new, very clean, spacious and very well decorated. The house was stylish with lovely furniture and a fully equipped modern kitchen. Owner was very welcoming and friendly; greeted us upon arrival and also left us complimentary drinks to enjoy in the fridge and coffee, much appreciated! The view is amazing! Highly recommended!

What I didn’t like as a solo traveler is that Viator tours were mainly required a couple/2 person minimim booking. Thankfully booking.com excursions was a life saver. Most restaurants are closed between 2-5 pm so keep that in mind. I’m not a foodie so I didn’t explore the fine dining options. Papeete lacks a robust night life, it’s more a “get away from real life” and relax that caters to water sports types. I realized I’m a “city girl” type so after 3 days of chilling I was restless.

Papeete is a dump! We expected more from the French. Very 3rd world, unsafe water, no sidewalks, trash and graffiti abounds, bums begging, dirty drainage canals, and for this you are charged extremely high prices for everything! Bora bora wasn't much better... Moorea was nice. We took a cruise to the Marquesas and Tuamotus which were still unspoiled and gorgeous with genuine natives. The islands are stunning, but just go to Hawaii.

Papeete itself is very bland and the market is over-rated (in my opinion). I wished I had planned properly and spent few nights at Moorea, but I didn't know what to expect. Rookie mistake 🫣 Lessons learnt. Despite mixed advice from the locals, I felt safe walking at night, which is a positive outlook for the Island 🙏 As many reviewers have mentioned, Papeete is only a good stopover to the other islands 🏝 😀 The 2 highlights of my stay was the day trip to Moorea, doing the safari excursions and the cultural night at the InterContinental Hotel.

Over-all it was great.

Over-all it was great. We spent 7 days on Tahiti, plus a half-day excursion on Moorea. 5 days on Tahiti would probably be enough. Next time we will visit a couple of others islands for a few days. Good food and shopping in Papeete.

Spending a day or two there would have been enough, there was obvious poverty, with multiple homeless people. Not what I expected at all. I hired a car to visit the sites, but when I was driving around, everything looked closed, or uninviting. As a solo tourist, this wasn't the best place to visit. If I had known better, I would have book a night & visited the different islands.

The people are what make it so good.

The people are what make it so good. Very polite people who appear to be honest and kind. The shopping mall across the road from the Hilton was a wonderful place with a food hall and a good supermarket. We enjoyed a day trip to Moorea and a taxi trip around that island. Also the 5-hour Tahiti group trip and the boat trip. I did not do any snorkelling as I do not swim and I thought perhaps an activity in knee-high water could have been included in the boat trip. The Museum of the Islands was a good activity.

Leili Home is a very comfortable and well located apartment perfect for a short or long stay in Papeete. It had everything we needed, was tastefully furnished, well appointed and so close to restaurants, the supermarket and an easy walk into the main part of town. The host was incredibly friendly, helpful and responsive and for a small fee even drove us to the airport for our late night flight. Best of all the apartment was exceptional value for money. Would definitely stay here again.

The hotel was very clean, and the room was spacious and comfortable. Its location is convenient, with easy access to both the city center and the airport, as well as the port. Additionally, the staff were very friendly and helpful throughout my stay.

Central Papeete was 15 walking from Fare Rearea. Room spacious and clean and had a private garden to eat in. Breakfast was provided with variety. Perhaps closer to normal Papeete living than more expensive downtown hotels.
