Everything was great and well thought out. The hosts were respectful and polite when we did see each other. The location was easy to find. The accommodation had everything I needed, right down to small things like salt. Lovely little town with everything you might need shop wise.

Lovely little town with everything you might need shop wise. A hop, skip and a jump to Ohope beach which is absolutely gorgeous. Awateri trains an absolute must activity. Took our kids to the Awateri hot pools which were okay. Probably would not stay at camp ground. We stayed at Riverside camping ground which was great.

Whakatane is a beautiful place with beaches and heaps to see...

Whakatane is a beautiful place with beaches and heaps to see and do. But got rudely woken by the cleaner who made a heck of a noise vacuuming and banging table and chairs around at 5am, seriously I wasn't a happy camper.

Whakatane is a great place to visit.

Whakatane is a great place to visit. For the holiday makers there are alot of things that will keep you busy in the area. Walks, shopping, swimming, fishing, sight seeing, eating to name a few. Take a trip to Whale Island or a fishing trip on the local charter boat. Drive 10 minutes over the hill to the safest beach for swimmers at Ohope beach, walk over to Otawairere Bay for a dip using the beautiful bush track. Or just relax, visit the public pool, cinema, library, museum or a cafe for a great coffee. Accomodation can be found easily in the town, Awa Motel being my favourite place to stay with walking distance to town for entertainment, food and drinks or just for wandering around. Beautiful family area down the very furtherest end on the main street where you will find a play ground for the kids, a place to paddle and plenty of grass to lay out fish n chips or a picnic. You name it...Whakatane has it. Come and enjoy.

It was warm and sunny throughout our visit and the people we met were welcoming. We enjoyed walking along the riverside embankment and were impressed by how well cared for it was. All picnic and play areas were very well maintained too.

What a nice and clean town. Everyone was friendly. Sadly, it was very quiet but had a great dinner and breakfast in town! We enjoyed the golf cart railway trip we had booked. So, all in all nice weekend!

Gibbons take aways best fresh fish and chips we’ve had in ages quantity and quality plus value for money. The town is well structured to drive around locals super friendly and helpful. It has an old style kiwi feel that is becoming a thing of the past I’m so greatful to witness and experience this true old school style kiwi way of life still alive and well in Whakatāne what a bonus.

We booked the 2 bedroom with spa for a night when driving through Whakatane this weekend - Our 2x 6yr olds and 3yr old spent *hours* in the spa pool which was great as we could see them from the living room but still kind of had alone time. The spa was deep enough for adults but safe with seating for the kids and temp controlled with hot/cold taps. Really recommend this for a family, well priced for 5 people and good kitchen facilities in the room. We'll stay again. Friendly staff.

Perfect location is the heart of Whakatane. It is a simple hotel, which feels a bit historic- I liked it for the 'blast from the past' atmosphere. The staff were very friendly and professional, and the pub down stairs is nice. Would recommend for a stop over stay rather than for a few nights though!

I come to Whakatane regularly, and my favorite place to stay is at the Complex. I have found the container cabins to be really light and bright, which I like. They are always clean and the reception lady is lovely.
