Wild and Wonderful Welly

Acclaimed for its thriving art, film and cultural scene, windy ‘Welly’ is enclosed by mountains such as Kaukau and Victoria on one side and the picturesque Wellington Harbour on the other. Wellington has the distinction of being the world’s southernmost capital city.

As the gateway to New Zealand’s magical south island, Queens Wharf is headquarters for ferry services across Cook Strait as well as in the direction of Eastbourne on the other side of the harbour.

Get your bearings by using the Kelburn cable car that starts at Lambton Quay and travels up to the Botanic Gardens and Carter Observatory with its sweeping views across the Miramar Peninsula and local bays.

Don’t miss a visit to New Zealand’s national museum, Te Papa, which also incorporates the National Art Gallery. Cuba Street offers a multicultural touch and includes the Wellington Night Market with an array of international cuisines. Ascot Street is a lively shopping precinct.

You can catch the funicular up to the top of the Botanic Gardens, have a coffee at the cafe up there, then walk down through the gardens to the glasshouse and rose garden down the bottom. Te Papa is a great venue. We also enjoyed the Weta Workshop tour. A walk along the quayside would normally be nice but it was a bit cold and windy on the day we did it.

I have always liked Wellington whenever I have been, but this time there was so much building work and road works in the city centre, it was noisy and a bit chaotic. Walkways were blocked off and some normal accesses weren't available. I understand this work needs to be done, and hopefully next time we go it will be over with.

If visiting Wellington a visit to Weta workshops is a must, then head to Te Papa for a true appreciation of the work that Weta have done in making the of ‘Gallipoli’. Take the cable car & walk through the gardens & visit the museum. Finish the day with a yummy meal at a waterfront restaurant.

Having stayed at Citylife before many times I love the apartment style accommodation for my family. The kitchen is user friendly. The rooms are good. Beds comfortable. Location is superb and so easy to get around Wellington. Having a washer and dryer in the apartments are awesome for a family! Perhaps from a sales point of view your staff could also upsell the 2 bedroom with 2 bathrooms to customers who are willing and wanting to pay a bit more at check in for the convenience of having 2 bathrooms.

A Hotel with character made our stay in Wellington that little bit more special. Location was great and we enjoyed being able to walk around the city. We expressed interest in purchasing one of the hotel cups and when we got back to our room we found a personalised note and a cup waiting for us. This extra customer service touch meant that when we returned to Wellington we booked in for an additional night.

Great central location to city shopping and waterfront. Very modern and clean facilities. Well set out. Spare trundler bed was comfy, and great at full height. A bit of early morning noise with heavy vehicle on main street. Hotel central Air con a bit noisy at night. Friendly staff accommodating booked taxi to airport for me.

The hotel is insanely well situated for a city adventure in Wellington - I went for a gig and being less than a block from the venue was unreal for convenience. The hotel has beautiful shared spaces, with a great downstairs bar. Room was well appointed, with decent modern amenities and cool fit out.
