FAQs about hotels in Wellington

Wild and Wonderful Welly

Acclaimed for its thriving art, film and cultural scene, windy ‘Welly’ is enclosed by mountains such as Kaukau and Victoria on one side and the picturesque Wellington Harbour on the other. Wellington has the distinction of being the world’s southernmost capital city.

As the gateway to New Zealand’s magical south island, Queens Wharf is headquarters for ferry services across Cook Strait as well as in the direction of Eastbourne on the other side of the harbour.

Get your bearings by using the Kelburn cable car that starts at Lambton Quay and travels up to the Botanic Gardens and Carter Observatory with its sweeping views across the Miramar Peninsula and local bays.

Don’t miss a visit to New Zealand’s national museum, Te Papa, which also incorporates the National Art Gallery. Cuba Street offers a multicultural touch and includes the Wellington Night Market with an array of international cuisines. Ascot Street is a lively shopping precinct.

Wellington Airport has flights to other domestic destinations as well as Australia and Fiji. Booking.com can help you choose your hotel to round off a fantastic city trip vacation.

We absolutely 💯 ❤️ Wellington, just not the wind, and oh how crazy , windy it was. Thank goodness our relatives still managed a walk around the city and ride the Cabel Car before traveling across to the South Island on the BlueBridge Ferry.

Due to the terrible weather our show was cancelled, which was the whole reason to be in the city. However the weather the next day was magic with a lovely walk around the shops and along the waterfront (excellent gelato there), great eating places (The Grand was a standout), a visit to Te Papa (especially the nature section and Gallipoli), but a shame that the Banksy exhibition at Tahina was finished.

Windy but worth it. Stunning views and loads to do.

Windy but worth it. Stunning views and loads to do. Make use of the busses it saves you from having to pay ridiculous amounts for parking in CBD, and we just walked everywhere with the stroller. We hired a croc bike for 30min on the walkway and then had delicious crafted shakes at the Shake Bar. Te Papa museum was good for the rainy day and we enjoyed the Cable Car up to the gardens and the lovely stroll down. The Crab Shack is a must for dinner! Lovely atmosphere, amazing food and the friendliest staff.

We really enjoyed our trip to Wellington eventhough the weather wasn't great. We rode the cable car up to the Botanical Gardens then took the shuttle bus to Zealandia. Zealandia was a doable walk eventhough my husband and I are both in our 70's. There are guided tours but we chose to do it on our own. The tracks are well marked with signs denoting the type of track(steep or slippery) The Botanical Gardens are lovely we chose to walk through the gardens back into the city which was a relatively easy walk. We also spent half a day exploring Te Papa the Museum of New Zealand it had some brilliant displays with the Anzac one being our favourite. The re-enactment figures are fantastic and so life like. I would recommend this Museum to travellers of all ages. We had a great meal at Ernestos opposite the Intercontinental and the Crab Shack on the wharf.

Great things to do in Wellington.

Great things to do in Wellington. Te Papa has fabulous exhibitions to browse, Zealandia is wonderful, relaxing and healing. The uniqueness of so many of the shops is great so a wander through quirky Cuba Street, and Thorndon shops is a tonic. And as for all the fabulous coffee and cafes, including along the waterfront- Karaka Cafe a must, along with Eva just downstairs, truly spoilt for choice. Breakfast, lunch and dinner choices overwhelming. The Lab, Fidels pop up, Floriditas, Highwater the list goes in. Too many places not enough time, and all really close

The public transport is excellent.

The public transport is excellent. Very easy to get the city from the airport and to get around everywhere. Te Papa is great but there is also a wonderful Wellington Museum on the waterfront which is well worth a visit and not so well advertised. This tells you the history of the early Māori and their links to their ancestral environment. If you visit Antrim House (it’s very cool) and pick up a few brochures there, there are also some wonderful cultural and historic places to visit which give you a good picture of Wellington’s architecture since European settlement. Of particular note is the amazing clock at the top of the old BNZ building on Lambton Quay. Don’t bother with an umbrella on blustery days, it’ll turn inside out in 5 seconds1

Excellent location. The size of the apartment was great (3 Bedrooms, 2 Bathrooms) with a good layout, high quality finishings and well equipped kitchen and stunning city and harbour views. It was also very clean. This is one of the few 3 bedroom apartments I found available in the central city. Absolutely lovely staff on the front desk, only to happy to help. Car parking right next door. Lots of good eateries nearby. Easy to get to the hotel and convenient with the super market straight over the road. I would happily stay again.

We have stayed at several Quest Apartments throughout New Zealand. The cleanliness, maintenance, as well as age of the room's decor of this facility has been the best that we have experienced thus far. The room was spacious and the kitchen extremely well-resourced for a couple's needs. Its close proximity to the city, meant it was easy to walk into central Wellington to the city and its attractions. This is the second time we have stayed at this particular facility and would do so again in the future.

I’m an ex Wellington resident so I know the town and this place is an excellent central location, a short stroll/walk to everywhere. It was a standard quest apartment which is to say it’s a well appointed and serviced modernish apartment. It’s in the back of the old bank building which is a central landmark in Wellington. Pretty much the heart of the city.

Walking distance to all the central city points of interest. Modern fixtures & fittings. Great shower, comfortable bed. Nice little touches like complimentary soft drinks, sweets & chocolates left in your room on a regular basis. How many hotels do that???
