We liked Bellrock Lodge and this little village so much, we even extended our stay! :) It is worth staying longer in Kororareka Russell and especially at Bellrock Lodge, so let us tell you why: Bellrock Lodge is situated on a little hill (if you walk, there are a few steep meters) and because of that, you will have the most amazing views from your terrace over the coast. On clear days you will even see as far as Waitangi. The apartment and the terrace are quite spacious, even the bathroom offers more than usual space in rental properties. It is very nice equipped. The garden is beautiful so you also see beautiful garden greenery from the terrace. The hosts Catherine and Stuart are very kind and responded fast via WhatsApp. Their sweet dog Piper was also a great host and excited to offer play time with her favorite football and such :D Catherine and Stuart were always very hospitable, so for instance, if you get in a morning rain like us, getting new towels is easy peasy, just a message/call away ;-) The Lodge offers great amendities: laundry, dryer, DVD Library (great selection, we loved it), CD and Book Library aswell... To top it off, the Whirlpool and BBQ area are great, with superb views also. We loved to enjoy the Spa, especially on rainy days. In addition to that, we highly appreciated how thoughtful everything is equipped, there are umbrellas in the driveway, wineglasses from plastic for the Spa, different chairs (even comfy reading/TV chairs), more than 2 different towel sizes and many more things like that.. We have travelled a lot and Bellrock Lodge is one of our favorites. You nearly forget, that you are at a self-service accomendation because everything is so thoughtfully done. Thank you Catherine & Stuart! P.s. It is worth staying longer, you can experience a lot in the area, walk to the beaches from Bellrock if you want to, get groceries and have great restaurants/cafés in town.

I rarely give reviews to places I stay because I travel so much but this one is def a 10/10. The dwelling is set in a beautiful garden and felt very peaceful. There is a wonderful attention to detail in the interior and had a warm welcome from David and his dog. It is close to everything but very quiet.

I love everything about Russell.

I love everything about Russell. It is such an iconic place, full of history. I actually met a lady walking along the beach whose forebearers had built the The Duke of Malborough. The shops have so many wonderful things to offer and the people so friendly and helpful. Apart from The Duke of Malborough which always sets the highest standard in their restaurant which produces incredible food, I must mention Hone’s Garden. The pizzas are outstanding and mixed with a craft beer and friendly staff it’s not hard to see why it is always our first port of call. They have managed to create a laid back, island vibe surrounded by tropical plants. Just in front of Hone’s is The Gables, a fabulous Italian Restaurant. The Lamb Ragu with home made pasta again is exceptional. You would go along way to find three amazing places all within walking distance with views to die for. In terms of boat trips, we can heartily recommend The Hole in the Rock. Our last two lots of visitors thoroughly enjoyed this experience and the added bonus of seeing dolphins and a shark. Just remember to wear something warm as can be a bit cold depending on the weather. Well worth it though!

Do yourself a favour and stay for a few days at this wonderful place. There are so many walks, and lots of beautiful spots to explore. It would be a shame to limit yourself to the main street. The museum and the French Printery are certainly worth a visit, as is getting up to the top of Flagstaff Hill and having a coffee from the van on Long Beach. The 4 Square shop is well stocked and reasonably priced if you are self catering.

I have been to Russell a couple of times before but only as day visits so to be honest Ive only stayed in the little township itself but loved that. This time I stayed a night to attend a function. The motel was the icing on the cake because where you stay can make or break a stay anywhere. The view of the harbour below with boats anchored..you couldn't beat. I want to come back..and my friend and I intend to. It's handiness was great. Great afternoon of shopping..something for everyone & delightful 'The Grazing table' cafe for home cooked sweets with delicious coffee. Would have liked to spend more time in the fabulous looking book store..great looking coffee table books on display but I ran out of time. There is something for everyone here. Russell town can easily be walked around in a short time without stopping..but who wants to do that. It's a lovely, interesting quaint place with a lovely harbour looking over to Paihia where you go to connect to main highway..eventually. A day passenger ferry runs regularly from Paihia & to. There are other areas to visit over the hill and the car ferry over from Opua is very quick and efficient. And least but not forgotten..the fantastic Duke of Marlborough hotel and accomodation with its elegance gracing the shoreline is a highlight. I had a lovely evening supportng the Recuse Helicopters fundraising event..it was spent under gorgeous chandelier lighting with all the simple but lovely table settings. Surely a grand gentleman which began in 1827 as 'Johnny Johnsons Grog Shop' by an ex convict come good!

A beautiful serene village.

A beautiful serene village. You need to be prepared to walk & explore the area. Lovely places to eat & drink - our most favourite is Hones Kitchen. Getting out on the water in a boat is an added bonus

One of my favourite places to visit.

One of my favourite places to visit. The views over the water, wandering around the town and awesome restaurants like the French Cafe at the end of the waterfront. So relaxing and peaceful and friendly people.

Beachfront walk, Pompallier House, French cafe next to Pompallier House, Christ Church historic Anglican church, especially the 10:30am service, the Russell Museum with extensive collections exceptionally well-presented and amazing and only $10. Long Beach. Boat trip to Urupukapuka Island and Cape Brett and Hole in the Rock. Okiato 7km away which was the early capital around 1840-1842, and had the site of the first Government House.

The room & facilities were very well planned. Plenty of space & cooking facilities for two people. Large comfortable bed with lovely crisp linen. Lovely little ‘Table & chairs’ area in room for dining. We were very happy with the facilities offered with this motel & would absolutely recommend it. Short distance from the lovely, cute town of Russell ( either walking or driving).

So clean and well maintained. The kitchen is always a bonus when travelling with kids. The beds are better than 5 star hotels that I’ve stayed at so comfortable. I’m starting to find motels are becoming better than hotels. The pool was nice and clean and the staff are easy. Bill the owner is so accommodating and lovely.
