If you are in the area, then make sure you stay at Paheke Lodge. It's a wonderful heritage property with loads of character and a beautiful garden. The owners are really helpful and friendly, and provide a fabulous freshly made healthy breakfast. The stewed plums, picked from the garden, are just amazing. You won't regret staying here.

We were made to feel very welcome. Had the place to ourselves most of the time we were there. Breakfast was delicious and varied (loved the home-made ham and cheese breakfast muffins). Comfortable beds. Everything was very clean and tidy. The walk-in shower was lovely. The huge garden with its palm trees and numerous other plants were a please to spend time in. The well set-up, shaded deck area was wonderful for relaxing in. The pool table was great fun in the evenings. It was only a 10 minute drive to Paihia and 15 to Kerikeri, which was very convenient. We booked all 3 rooms, so basically had the house and gardens to ourselves, which made great value for money. The hosts, who have many years of hospitality experience, were wonderful and very interesting people. I and my family loved our stay and we shall stay there again. Highly recommended :-)

Large area with a great outdoors space. Definitely a great place to stay if you are visiting the bay of islands, which was one of my favorite places in New Zealand. We had one room with a lot of area, and another with very little area, so that was interesting.
