Opononi and Omapere are two small seaside towns within a 5km stretch of the west coast of Northland, near the mouth of the Hokianga harbour. The scenery is stunning, but the accommodation and eating options are fairly limited.

This was a memory trip, so it was the first time.

This was a memory trip, so it was the first time. SORRY, I had to mention the incident, but wiser to leave it. Now you wanted a report, I only mentioned it in case something was wrong and could happen to somebody else. It has gone no further. You have done well in the decorating, and perhaps we will come again Carole

I've used this accomodation many times.

I've used this accomodation many times. It's easy to book and is at a reasonable price. I know you need to book early or in advance IN THE HOLIDAYS and when events are on. I booked online from the opononi Pub once. I was lucky to get a room that was available at the time. That's why booking on line is just as good as ringing up. Ownership is changing in July I hope the new owners can maintain the previous owners standards. Always willing to support the accommodation.

Beautiful views of the harbour

Beautiful views of the harbour Beach is across the road from accommodation Fish & chips to die for Friendly people Rugged, natural, quiet & uncluttered beauty on the west coast. You don’t go to Opononi/Omapere to shop, its the place to go when you want to find peace, harmony & spirituality. If you want to get away to relax… this is the place to go!

Great spot, great views of the harbour where ever you stay.

Great spot, great views of the harbour where ever you stay. Nice restaurants, cafes and bars. Has a great little Four Square for shopping. Nearby is a great drive through the Waipoua Forest, visit the great Kauri tree Tane Mahuta - Tane Mahuta is the guardian of the forest and birds.

We stayed on the basis of self catering. What we loved about the property was that it exceeded our expectations. The position is wonderful with immediate access to the beach. Whilst there are very few facilities for us in this location (it didn’t matter as that’s why we chose to stay there) there was a hotel where we ate it and the two nights we were there and that was extremely good. There was a local shop where we go to get supplies. On a five week trip to New Zealand, this was one of the highlights!

Overall, the Opononi Lighthouse Motel provided a standard motel experience. It served its purpose as a functional and reasonably comfortable accommodation option. If you're looking for a no-frills, straightforward stay in the Opononi area, this motel could be a suitable choice.

The Heads has been renamed to The Sands which we were not informed about and is now under new management - the staff are currently being trained up for the summer season. The location is stunning and lends itself to be a fantastic hotel to stay in for the future.

Nice to be greeted at the door. All 3 apartments we used were very comfortable, clean, and bright. Convenient location for our event at The Sands Hotel. Lovely view across to the mouth of the Harbour and the sand dunes.
