We lived in Omarama approximately 30 years ago. It was lovely to see the progress in the town. There is plenty of places to eat out and all of them offer a good range of food, with friendly efficient staff.

Often overlooked as a passing point to more exotic destination, this little stop over town has a few worthy attractions; the Clay Cliffs, the Ahuriri River, the Hot tub and the Glider rides etc.
It is also near Twizel and Lake Ohau too.

Great little settlement - the Clay Cliffs were spectacular and a definite must-see. The Hot Tubs were so lovely afterwards - very private and in a peaceful outdoor setting. Absolutely loved them. Had a meal at the local pub which was also very good.

There are two places to eat in the village. A hotel which caters for tour parties. The bufet looked average. The ala carte menue, which looks interesting is not available every night (barman said). It was available when I was there, but the staff seamed very reluctant to offer it. The steak was limp (looked like it had been cooked in a sous vide, but not flash fried at a high enough temperature) and everything was way, way over salted!!! I was Would not recomend it.
The pub was lovely, good food, great staff and welcoming. Would recomend it.

It was a spur of the moment booking as we had a problem with our car. Great hotel for overnight or several days. Friendly helpful staff, clean rooms if a bit "tired". Arrived late and left early so didn't eat on the premises.

I love the scenery and climate there and the locals we met were friendly and helpful.
I recommend The Pink Glider for a meal as well as the kebab truck on the highway. Both have super staff and good food.
Omarama provides a really pleasant holiday get away.

The location was just right. It was the ideal location for a day trip up to Mt Cook. It was just across the road to Omarama Hot Tubs. We walked across at 8PM and sat in the warm water for 90 minutes with the trillions of stars shining bright. After we walked back. Absolutely brilliant.
On our last day, my wife suffered a medical event which required being airlifted out. The people of Omarama rallied around giving first response and organizing traffic and the helicopter to land adjacent to the motel. lifesaving help.

This was the perfect stay, the room was warm on arrival, we were met with a smiling face and bottle of fresh milk!! the room was much larger than most rooms now built this is the benefit of a 1980's build, they were built as workers accommodation not as motel rooms so they are warm and well sized. PERFECT
