Loved this place, rather quirky with lots of memorabilia on display. Very comfortable bedrooms, shower block down the hall, cozy bar and restaurant, very welcoming staff and owners. Tea and coffee on a table in the hallway.

What an absolute little gem of a place this is. We loved our stay! Of the beaten track, yet pretty close to Greymouth. The food was out of this world! The menu coversall bases and fantastic value for money. We ended up getting three courses each and ended up absolutely stuffed! The hotel is charming, with a lot of character and an amazing back story and history. The staff is so friendly and helpful! They even provided hot water bottles to take to bed on a cold winter's night! We will definitely be back!!

The Empire appears newly renovated and the room and facilities are really nice. Very clean and spacious rooms, with a big deck out the front door to sit on with it being directly connected to the Cafe. Nice food and drinks in the Cafe too and the staff there were very friendly and happy to go out of their way to help you.

My husband and I stayed here on Christmas Eve and had a nice dinner with the hosts. We were given great advice from Andrew and Jolene about getting food and gas as everything would close the following day. It is outside of town, which made it a nice tranquil getaway, especially when we took advantage of the hot tub on premise.
