Tranquil town away from the touristy hubbub of Te Anau but within range to catch the tour to Milford Sound. The Church restaurant served excellent meals at a reasonable price. Probably best suited to tours to Doubtful Sounds, but we did not mind the 20 minute drive to Te Anau.

Manapouri is a breathtakingly beautiful area with a quiet restful atmosphere. There is a lovely restaurant nearby and other food outlets. Lots to do in the area too. There are the day and overnight trips to Doubtful Sound, a stunningly beautiful area that will blow your mind. You do need to book ahead for these trips. There is also glow worm caves, alpaca farms, Kaykaking, tramping and more. Do your research and enjoy an amazing time in Manapouri.

Manapouri is a very small, lakefront town that has a beautiful view of Lake Manapouri and the mountains beyond. It also has a fantastic cafe/bar/restaurant called The Church, which I thoroughly recommend. However, don't stay at the Manapouri Lakeview Motor Inn if you can avoid it.

You need to help the receptionist with English.

You need to help the receptionist with English. When it was decided that he was under last name it was ok. She kept looking up first name and no booking was found then he wrote down name Graeme Childs. it was ok then.

Manapouri is a quiet place with few amenities, does have a church pub restaurant which was great, a must visit . And an antique traders shop and cafe and petrol. Station . The area is very close to the Doubtful Sound cruise terminal, which has cruises daily into Doubtful Sound which takes you across lake Manapouri . The lake is tranquil And unspoilt with walking and cycling tracks along its shores.

The view of Lake Manapouri from our bungalow was outstanding. Each morning I was excited to get up to see how it looked with ever changing cloud formations over the mountains beyond. On the last day there was a fabulous rainbow which we could see from the lounge - wonderful. The kitchen and bathroom are adequate and the beds were comfy. Such a great location for travelling to Milford Sound and walking distance to a friendly place for dinner.

The house was very well set up, clean and nicely decorated. It was only a few minutes walk to join the Doubtful Sound Cruise and to take a river taxi to the south bank of the Waiau River where we walked the Circle Track through beautiful beech forest and swam in Lake Manapouri.

Rustic and non-touristy. Authentic. Super friendly hosts. Felt like a home instead of a hotel. Gorgeous location. Quiet and peaceful.
