Interesting little town (village), with a pub having the hard antler bar. Our midday meal there was good. We did not explore the town.
The Heartland Hotel, where we stayed overnight, is bit out of town, and is a self-contained pub/motel.

We didn’t go into the town of Haast, but were just outside, on the road to Jackson Bay. After the crowds and bustle of other towns, Haast Beach was a welcome change. If you like expansive, empty beaches, with great walkability and rock collecting, this is the experience for you.

A lovely small town on the edge of the Mt Aspiring National Park that was a great gateway to all this area has to offer for walking, biking and just enjoying the scenery. Good choices for restaurants, close to a beach and a very neat inviting town.

Not many tourists stop here.
Not many tourists stop here. The Visitors Centre is amazing with a brilliant interpretative display. The drive to Jackson Bay is well worth making the time for to explore the wild Southland areas. Highly recommend the Heartland Hotel for dinner.

Great value for money, great room and very good wifi.
Great value for money, great room and very good wifi. Restaurant on-site excellent. But no kitchen in room, no toaster, no fridge in room (shared fridge in hallway), makes it difficult to have breakfast in your room.

It was a great base to check out South Westland from.
It was a great base to check out South Westland from. We found lots more walks we could have done if we had more days there. Great drive up to Franz Josef and back in a day. The history and geography are amazing. Stunning scenery.

A big accommodation located about 10 minutes drive from Haast town centre, Bay Road Motels is a comfy holiday home. It has a big living area and kitchen with the biggest bathroom I saw on our trip, equipped with washing machine and dryer. I wish we'd stayed there for more than a night. The beach is just across the road and, being quite secluded, you will find peace amidst nature.

A comfortable, warm welcome after a long, slow trip through Haast Pass, following extreme snow storm the previous days. Convenient location with easy walking to pub, The Hard Antler & breakfast Cafe right next door. Hosts have done a great job in refurbishing this hotel and were very helpful.

Really nice peaceful place. Karsten & his wife were really lovely hosts and provided all that we needed. Beach was across the road, easy to get to Jackson Bay, ship cove and all those places. Haast is an unspoilt and uncrowded gem. Good eating places nearby but shopping a little restricted.
Was upgraded to a queen bedroom by pleasant staff at this backpackers and motel. The bed was comfortable for a quiet night's stay. Quirky internal garden common area. Grocery takeaway behind the facilities. Good parking available.
