FAQs about hotels in Christchurch

Stunning Natural Beauty at Your Doorstep

Dusting itself off from a series of recent earthquakes is the seriously stunning New Zealand city of Christchurch. While its old English buildings like ChristChurch Cathedral are being rebuilt, the magnificent Botanic Gardens and Hagley Park sustain its reputation as the Garden City.

Located along the Avon River, NZ’s 2nd-largest city has Victoria Square at its centre. Surrounding highlights include the Canterbury Museum and the Gothic-style Arts Centre. Sumner Beach is a favourite location for locals when the sun shines.

Out towards the spectacular harbour town of Lyttelton is the Christchurch Gondola ride where you can enjoy a sweeping view of the city.

The South Island’s capital is a good starting-off point for extreme sports such as bungee jumping and white-water rafting. The majestic Southern Alps surround the city and offer world-class ski resorts such as Methven, at the foot of Mt. Hutt.

A large selection of motels and hotels are available on Booking.com, including in the vicinity around Christchurch International Airport.

We were very lucky to have hot weather so enjoyed walking around town and the botanical gardens. When we return at the end of our trip we’ll visit some galleries and museums. We loved the riverside markets for dinner.

The Earthquake Museum was, for me as a New Zealand, essential to visit...as we in the North Island had no real idea what the people were going thru. The videos etc show it clearly. The tram ride was relaxing and informative, you can go round as many times as you like in one day.

Needed to go a few rounds on the tram to appreciate where everything was. It’s quite spread out for shopping, cultural and sightseeing. However, once you get the layout, it is easy, with plenty to see and do plus lots of different eateries.

Fantastic city with so much to see and do.

Fantastic city with so much to see and do. Christchurch has great dining options all over the city but especially down by the riverside. It is just beautiful down there. Its a great city to walk around, unlike crappy Auckland city that nowadays you just would walk through at all. Highly recommend Christchurch City and out lying areas.

The night life in Restaurants & Bistros is amazing with an enormous range of tastes & styles. Staff , whatever nationality are helpful & fun. Sadly the daytime sights are less so as the traditional part of the city is being overwhelmed with glass & steel black box constructions , typical of "modern" soulless architecture. Clean & tidy but meaningless. The Botanic gardens are always worth a visit even though we were slightly ahead of the roses in bloom.

A city still recovering from the 2011 earthquake.

A city still recovering from the 2011 earthquake. A vibrant place with lots of development, places to eat and drink, things to do and see. Worth a few days to visit if you're travelling down the east coast of NZ.

The location was awesome...1min walk to the venue of the concert I came down for. 3-minute walk to the bus stop that takes you to and from the airport ($8 return, so cheap and better than the $78 Uber return). Great food place options right outside the hotel entrance, bottle store, cafe, hairdressers, and the old cathedral as your neighbor. Staff were great, quick, and really helpful. I was upgraded to a 2 bedroom apartment as well. It was spacious and had everything I needed and more. Great

The location is excellent as it is very near Riverside Market and Botanical Gardens. A good hotel to stay to explore Christchurch city center. It is also not far from the bus terminal where there are several buses to and from Christchurch airport. The staff was also very friendly and helpful. He allowed us to have a late check out upon request as we arrived late when we checked in.

It is a beautiful location, close to the botanical Gardens and the Hagley Gardens. They held my baggage after checkout, so I was free to enjoy Christchurch for a few more hours without being encumbered by my suitcase. Close to public transport to the airport. The number 3 bus is just a 5 mins walk near the corner of Riccarton and Bartlett Streets / Thai Orchard restaurant.

Nice stay here, we had a super late arrival at 2:30 am into Christchurch, we were super grateful to still get a transfer from the hotel, the gentlemen driving the shuttle was amazing, so lovely and friendly. The room was very standard but comfortable for an airport hotel. We were given fresh milk by the shuttle driver for our little 4 year old which was a lovely touch
