The boutique hotel is a truly special place—exceptionally beautiful, with a wonderful atmosphere. Aimée and Ron, the hosts, have transformed the old farmhouse from the early 19th century into a top-class haven of comfort. The blend of traditional farmhouse charm and modern design has been executed incredibly well. Their concept of using local materials like limestone and repurposing building materials has been a great success. The three suites—just recently completed—are outstanding in terms of architecture and interior design. The quality of the furniture, lighting, and bathrooms is very high. With great attention to detail in every furnishing and floor covering, they have truly created something extraordinary. We felt at home right away. In the evening, we shared a glass of wine with the two of them and felt genuinely welcomed. The hotel is just a little over 10 minutes by car from the center of Maastricht, making everything easily accessible. The surrounding area also features some very nice restaurants, some with wonderful views of Maastricht from the hills. Parking right in front of the hotel or at the public parking lot just 100 meters away is no problem. There is also a charging station for electric cars on the lot. We wholeheartedly wish Aimée, Ron, and their family—with their two daughters, two dogs, and two horses—all the best and much success with their project. We’ll gladly come back.

We stayed at the Alex Maastricht because we came to see the Andre Rieu show (which was also amazing) so the location was perfect, as it was close to the station, in a quiet spot with a nice view. The room was lovely - clean, fresh and modern, with a comfy bed and pillows. There were thoughtful extras and a coffee pod machine with brownies as a treat. The dinner was superb! The little touches such as free snacks and delicious bread made us feel spoilt and the food was exceptional. Staff were friendly and attentive and made us feel welcome.

I traveled with family to visit the American Cemetery.

I traveled with family to visit the American Cemetery. My great great uncle was killed in World War II and is buried there. Dutch people from the surrounding area were so grateful to the Americans for liberating them, that they adopted the graves of American soldiers and have cared for them for over 75 years. The staff at the cemetery made our visit so special. They escorted us to the grave, and placed two flags there…one American and one from the Netherlands. That way we could take home a flag that had flown over his grave. They also rubbed sand in the white marble stone so that the name was more prominent for photos—and the sand came home from Omaha Beach (one of the D-Day landing sites). The cemetery is beautiful and serene and is a must-see.

Margraten itself was a disappointment.

Margraten itself was a disappointment. There wasn't much to do, and everything closed very early. If you're looking for a place to eat after 8 p.m. (a normal time for us), you'll end up at a pizzeria and a brasserie. Nothing wrong with that, but there's nothing else.

Delicious and good Chinese food.

Delicious and good Chinese food. There are walking routes, though not always clearly marked, but it's definitely worth walking in this area. A supermarket is about 5 km away, in Gulpen, which is also a very nice town.

Few restaurants are open after 6 p.m. If you're in the middle of a tourist area, you'd probably take advantage of that, wouldn't you? And you'd like something other than fries and burgers... Unfortunately, for a better restaurant selection, you'll have to rely on Maastricht, Valkenburg, and Gulpen. Public transport is poor in the evenings.

The American Cemetery in Margraten is highly recommended.

The American Cemetery in Margraten is highly recommended. It's truly impressive that so many American soldiers who gave their lives for our freedom are buried there. It's a beautiful area, surrounded by stunning hills and landscapes. It's also excellent for cycling.

Easy to find, responsive host, wonderfully quiet place to stay, close to Aachen, Maastricht and Margraten war cemetery, well-equipped kitchen, good wifi, nice outdoors area, 2 bathrooms which made our stay more comfortable.
