Its largest square – Vrijthof – houses the twin churches of St Jan and St Servaas, a theatre and several pavement cafes. Various festivals and the Magic Maastricht Christmas markets are also held here. Markt square is home to the Flemish-style town hall, a twice-weekly market and yet more restaurants and bars offering great nightlife.

Maastricht, one of the most beautiful cities in Europe, is a vibrant blend of Roman history, stunning architecture, and a rich cultural scene. From exploring the underground caves of Mount Saint Peter to visiting historic landmarks like the Sint-Servaasbasiliek and the Basilica of Our Lady, there’s so much to uncover. Don’t miss the Labyrinth Three Countries Point just outside the city or the nearby destinations like Brussels, Aachen, and Paris, all within easy reach.
The city’s atmosphere is unparalleled, with incredible dining experiences at places like Restaurant Witloof, cozy cafés serving Dutch bitterballen and mint tea, and indulgent treats like Belgian waffles from Pinky’s or the finest chocolates at Rousseau. For the best fries, Reitz and Friterie Wieck are must-visits, and the vibrant Grote Markt offers delicious Dutch street food like fried fish and baked goods.
If you’re visiting in December or July, a concert by André Rieu in his hometown is an unforgettable experience. Having lived and traveled across many cities, I can confidently say Maastricht stands out as a true hidden gem. Its charm, history, and culinary offerings make it a destination you won’t regret visiting.

One of my favourite towns in the Netherlands .
One of my favourite towns in the Netherlands . A lot to see and all can be done by walking this beautiful city ! Fantastic restaurants shopping , the Dominican Book Store is a must see … just sitting along the rivers edge and people watching was also a fun thing to do . Avoid the big touristy squares to eat and you can find some great ones near by with better service .

There is a seemingly endless choice of; bars and restaurants and cafes. A great place if you are a foodie. Getting around is easy on foot or by cycle. Cars are banned from the city centre unless you are going to your hotel for check in or out, you then have to park your car in an underground car park.

A lovely city and so glad we made the effort to travel down from Amsterdam. Excellent shopping centre, Beautiful river. I wouldn't recommend the solar bus/train that sets out from the riverside by the river cruise boats. The way that the seating is arranged means that you are facing either right or left (not forward or backwards )so you have to either stand or crick your neck to see the side behind you

We love the location of this hotel. We stayed here last year and came back again this year with friends. Staff are helpful and friendly. The rooms are very comfortable and spotlessly clean. We needed somewhere with secure parking although parking is quite expensive but probably standard for a city hotel. Great location by the river and an easy walk into the city centre.
The location was superb. So much green surrounding the hotel. A lot of quiet. A lot of spaces to do a picnic. The castle is beautiful, very well decorated. Good breakfast. Close enough to the city centre. Bikes are at your disposal. An awesome place to stay if you have kids.
Used this a a base close enough for us to walk to the theatre where I was performing in the city centre. It had a young vibe and energy and the industrial style of the rooms and facilities was perfectly achieved. A very different experience from most traditional hotels
Beautiful hotel, located in a historic building which contributes to its charme, very close to the city centre but in a quiet area; spacious and clean room with view over the city (family room top floor); friendly and attentive host.
Domien and his wife were very welcoming and helpful.
The apartment is about a 10 min walk to Maastricht city centre. If you are going to a concert at the MECC, there’s a direct bus which takes 10 mins.
