Quiet Suburb near Amsterdam Airport

Hoofddorp represents one of those typical Dutch engineering marvels. Created after the draining of a lake and surrounding marshlands, it is today a mix of the traditional Dutch and ultimate modernity. Hoofddorp is located next to Schiphol International Airport and less than 30 minutes by train to Amsterdam city centre.

Founded in the mid-19th century after the draining of the Haarlemmer Lake, the town still maintains old typical houses, an old fort, and the 1856 windmill called ‘De Eersteling’, or ‘The First’. But the town is mostly known today as a tranquil suburb of Amsterdam, as well as an important hub where several companies have built their modern headquarters.

From Hoofddorp Railway Station you can reach the main hall of Schiphol International in less than 10 minutes by train. Links to Leiden, Utrecht and The Hague are also available, as well as numerous bus lines.

Hotels in Hoofddorp can be found in the city and near the railway station, but most of them are actually in the premises of Amsterdam Airport. Booking.com offers a variety of deals in and around the town.

    This hotel offers excellent value for money compared to others in the area, and it's just a 7-minute bus ride from the airport terminal (bus stop B8 or B10, RNET bus No.300). The rooms are spacious and spotlessly clean. The bar food, especially the pizza, was the perfect size, and the bar itself has a lovely, cozy atmosphere. It's hard to find anything to fault about this hotel, and the reception and cleaning staff deserve special praise for their great service. Highly recommend!

    Conveniently located near the airport, this accommodation offers a cozy retreat away from the usual tourist spots. The breakfast is exceptional, providing a delightful start to the day. The rooms are impeccably clean, catering perfectly to those with high standards like myself. From the complimentary shuttle service every 15 minutes to the seamless check-in process, the overall experience surpasses many others. Although I arrived around 9 PM and found the kitchen closed, the outstanding breakfast the next morning more than compensated for it.

    If you want to be near Schipol Airport, Hoofddorp is best...

    If you want to be near Schipol Airport, Hoofddorp is best for connectivity to the Airport. On the other hand, if you want to travel to Centraal or anywhere inside Amsterdam city, travelling is a hassle. You'll need to take the train which is sometimes unreliable and gets cancelled easily when the weather is bad.

    Hoofdorp is ok, they've got an AlbertHeijn XL and a good shopping centre. Pick your hotel near the railway station for easy access to Amsterdam and Schiphol. Novotel area looks ok right next to the station with secure parking. Hoofddorp winkelstad looked ok open till 9pm on a friday. Stay clear of the Hotelux, you can only reach it by car or taxi, no food on premises, once you are in with a taxi there is no way out other than a taxi.

    I walked from the train station to the hotel using the gps...

    I walked from the train station to the hotel using the gps walking directions on my phone. It was confusing and I had to change directions several times. I arrived during the day. It was not a short walk. The next time I returned to the hotel from the train station, I noticed a small sign which pointed to the right for the hotel. Never saw it the first time. A bigger sign would have been helpful. There were no laundry facilities in the hotel. Travelers these days try to keep luggage to a minimum to avoid extra fees and lost luggage. They need to do laundry more often. I left very early when it was still dark outside. The walk is past open fields with little or no lighting, then up and down some steep concrete stairs to get near the train station. I did not feel very safe but at least I only had a backpack and small carry-on bag. I feel sorry for those who arrive with larger luggage. Overall, it is a very nice place. Seemed like mostly business travelers in the lobby.

    We needed to be close to the airport.

    We needed to be close to the airport. However, should we return to Amsterdam for a longer stay we would stay in the city center. Nothing wrong with the hotel we would just prefer to be in the city next time.

    Everything was very good. Rooms were very nice and comfortable, cleaned every day. The train station is 10 minutes walk, very convenient. Hotel is very close to Amsterdam airport, took us 15 minutes via taxi and only 25 euro. Better to not book taxi in advance as they charge 45 euros if booked in advance via some company.

    The breakfast was great and from early morning 0530 till 1100 available. The hotel is really close to the airport so with the shuttle you can easily go back to the airport and take the train to Amsterdam. The room is spacious and the showers are excellent.

    The hotel is close to the Airport and that is its main feature. Besides the services are excellent, such as cleaning and comfort. My stay was too short to say more. By the way, if I come back to Amsterdam again, this hotel will be a very good choice

    Hard to find good price/quality and easy reachability on public transport around Schiphol. This hotel is the exception to that. Few mins walk from Hoofddorp station, modern and not over priced.
