Not my favorite city in Europe but definitely a great choice...

Not my favorite city in Europe but definitely a great choice for a short 5 days trip. Amazing public transport system that runs like clockwork, if you look hard and do your research you can actually find great places to eat that are worth the money you pay for. Hotel wise I would recommend Amsterdam Zuid, and if you are a classical music lover this is one of the tip cities to visit because the Concertgebouw is one of the top orchestras in the world so do not leave Amsterdam without attending a concert. Museum tickets are more expensive than other places like Vienna or Berlin and to be honest I did not find the same value there. If you are a foodie, treat yourself to "Brasserie Sent" in De Pijp and "Abbey" and for the best Coffee/ Breakfast head out to Bakers and Roasters.

Amsterdam is the world's oyster.

Amsterdam is the world's oyster. Perfect for thinking, living, and enjoying life outside the box. It has an alluring vibe. Just have to get used to the fact that Uber GPS does not work well in some areas, such as the old quarter, which can create inconveniences for potential customers who prefer that ride-sharing service over taxis.

Even if some may refer it as a Village, it’s a really modern and vibrant city, quite modernized, nowhere you goes accept cash anymore, so you’ll have to pay everything with card, much more convenient. The Centrical area has it’s unique historical value but definitely if have the change, go to explore outside areas which you can go a return on the same day by train. The public transportation system it’s a bit confusing but when you understand it, it can be really simple easy. Also, called me my attention how easy it’s to get a vegan/vegetarian option in almost all places, different from many other cities where not even in the supermarkets you can find any choice.

- Generally a very beautiful city, very compact and visually uniform (apart from churches, etc.), as the same architectural style is used throughout the center - Museums worth seeing (MOCO - Museum of modern art; and, of course, those featuring classic Dutch painters) - Unfortunately quite dirty in the center (including traces of excessive drinking) - If you want Christmas markets, you should go to another city - There are shopping opportunities in the center, but compared to other large cities, in my opinion, there are hardly any department stores with a “unique selling point” (as in London, Paris, Berlin, Hamburg, etc.), but mainly the usual run-of-the-mill shops, lots of souvenir shops, and, of course, coffee shops.

It was mostly cloudy and rainy.

It was mostly cloudy and rainy. We had Amsterdam Travel card thus used it so often when it was raining and also to gain time. The canals were cute but for 4 days of stay without seeing sun and even bright light weather during day was a bit gloomy. Maybe we should see once more in summer. The streets were stinking cbd cigarettes. As a non smoker it was really bad. Also in December we expected to see more Christmas markets but only saw one in Museumplein. Maybe it was early December because of that.

I stayed at Joy Hotel in Amsterdam from 1st to 3rd August. The hotel is conveniently located close to public transport, which makes it easy to reach the city centre and main attractions. There are also some shops and restaurants nearby, which was practical. The room was clean, with a comfortable bed and basic amenities suitable for a short stay. Air conditioning worked well, which was very helpful during the summer. Check-in was straightforward, and staff were polite and efficient.
