FAQs about hotels in Mexico City

Aztec Capital and Vibrant Metropolis

As one of the biggest cities in the world, Mexico City could be better described as an experience than a city. Founded in 1325 by the Aztecs as Tenochtitlan, it was both destroyed and rebuilt by the Spanish in the 16th century. Nowadays, it is the capital of the United Mexican States and its most important economic and cultural center.

The city center’s cornerstone is the famous Plaza de la Constitución, commonly called Zócalo. It's surrounded by the presidential Palacio Nacional and the Mexico City Metropolitan Cathedral.

The Avenida de la Reforma was built under the brief rule of Archduke Ferdinand Maximilian of Austria, while the deposed president Porfirio Díaz left a characteristic fusion of French-Mexican architecture. The 1960s saw a demographic explosion that only now is starting to be completely absorbed.

From the Chapultepec Parks and the chic Polanco, to the gay area of Zona Rosa and the Bohemian and intellectual Coyoacán: let Mexico City tell you its thousand secrets and stories.

Most of the hotels are located around the Reforma area, the Insurgentes Avenue and the Zócalo. If you’re looking for 5-star hotels in Mexico City, the modern Santa Fe area has a recently redeveloped business sector.

México City is a fantastic place to visit.

México City is a fantastic place to visit. Lots of history and great people. A lot to see in the city and within a day tour range. One tip: do not book a tour, including the city open top tour bus, on line. Best to go to one of the city tour bus stops and book there. This is cheaper and avoids you buying a product from an organisation elsewhere in the world who ended selling something that they don’t deliver, at a higher price and don’t communicate the booking to their local partner. So book with the local partner at the pick up locations.

Amazing city and beautiful people!!

Amazing city and beautiful people!! So much places to visit and all the locals were very nice. We visited the cathedral of our lady of Guadalupe and that was the main highlight of our visit. Lots of Taquerias to eat around Roma Norte and cafes were very convenient. We visited the hot springs and we really enjoyed that.

We were in Mexico City for the F1, but it is also the day of the dead celebrations. We found the city fascinating with colour and sounds we have never experienced. The locals are friendly, the food exceptional and the general vibe is happiness.

I have stayed at Hotel Casa Gonzalez several times over the course of 25 years and the place never disappoints me. The hotel is located in the heart of the rejuvenated and modernized Zona Rosa and is truly an oasis amid the energy and bustle of Mexico City. The rooms are clean and comfortable and the food at the restaurant is excellent. If you want an authentic Mexican lodging experience in a safe and secure environment, I would highly recommend staying at Hotel Casa Gonzalez, one of my favorite hotels in the world.

I love historical hotels, and this one was fabulous. It has an excellent location, in the Centro Historico of Mexico City. The staff were very friendly and spoke some English, which was very helpful. The food in the restaurant was good. When I arrived they were decorating in the lobby for the Day of the Dead celebration. The decorations were absolutely spectacular! I would definitely stay here again.

The location is perfect. For everyone who speaks of the noise, Mexico City is noisy and is a city that doesn't sleep. My first two nights were in a 5 star luxury hotel and it had all night long street noise. HotelPrincipal was actually better!
