We came to Hotel Playa Laguna Front to unplug, relax, and enjoy the lagoon -- and that's exactly what we did for 5 days. The hotel is in a prime location, sitting at perhaps the most colorful, swimmer-friendly part of the lagoon. You can tell it's a prime spot because a lot of boat tours end around this area to let people swim in the lighter waters there near the cenote. It's also only a couple kms from the town center, so you can easily get into town while still having enough distance from the more touristy center. The hotel itself isn't a fancy upscale place, but that's not what we were looking for. Nonetheless the hotel is new and the facilities are clean/modern with great bathrooms. The hotel is run by a lovely team who were really accommodating...big thanks to the manager Evaristo for always being there to help with any questions. Another great thing is that the kayaks and sup-boards are free to use from 6am to 6pm. The only day you can't use them is on Wednesday when no water activities (other than swimming) are allowed across the lagoon. Wednesdays are conservation days, with inactivity allowing the lagoon to restore itself.

breakfast was good on both the days. there's always scrambled eggs, cheese slices, sliced luncheon meat (deli), oj, coffee, fruit bowl, bread, jam, butter, amazing corn bread, muesli, yogurt and a toaster to toast ur bread. the views are special here and the waters are perfect throughout the day and early night too. not deep at all so safe for everyone. Absolutely lovely place with such kind and lovely owners. It was very homely and comfortable, while not feeling like we were in somebody else's space. We loved that there was a stove, oven, microwave, fridge and coffee machine in the communal area. It felt a bit like a hostel, except that the crowd was very mixed in age and also included families. We stayed in Mexico for four weeks and this was our favourite place.

This place is a paradise. The room was exceptional, well decorated, tent like - few steps away from the lagoon. The lagoon area offers a fantastic view and possibility to enjoy the cristal clear water from the deck. Paddle available as well. Food & services were excellent. I would definitely come back.

From start to finish, we really enjoyed this wonderful stay. There is parking (with camera surveillance) at the door, there is someone at the reception 24 hours, there is an amazing restaurant with delicious food at the hotel. Fantastic! The people are extremely hospitable (without being pushy ). The room was huge, beautiful and above all very clean. It has a nice bohemian style and with nice views of the garden. The staff in the hotel, the restaurant, the garden, they will all greet you with a smile! Thank you, Juan. He made our stay just that little bit more special!

The place is lovely. The rooms on the top floor have a terrace from where you can see the lagoon. The kitchen has everything you need and free water was provided. The hosts are super nice and welcoming. We loved hanging out with their animals as well (one dog and a cat). We can really recommend this house.

It’s a tiny town, best to get around with a car but taxis are available too. It has a proper Caribbean vibe and the lagoon is just fantastic - really clean, warm and sweet water. We also enjoyed the food at La Playita restaurant.

You have good food around, but several places are prepared to have foreign visitors spend lots of money for not-local foods. Seek for smaller non-fancy places to eat in order to taste real Mexico (don't eat a steak here... this is no meat land but seafood instead!). Need a car to do everything you want and need to enjoy Bacalar (highly recommended). Place is safe to walk around 24/7. Buy some goodies and drinks in advance to getting to your hotel to have something handy when everything is closed (remember, Southern Mexico opens late, takes a mid-day nap, and closes not that late). Take a hat, confortable sandals and water-based sun protection to avoid harming the corals. And Please, don't complain about animals and bugs: that is call NATURE!!

Bacalar is a great place but need to trim the streets of branches for flow of traffic .i choose a 5 star hotel but was very disappointed with my room and structure it is not my type more for back packers i asked for cancelation but they refuse so i did not stay there i had to get a other hotel . at 62 years why climb 8 feet to get on my bed very dangerous for elders

Very nice little town, much better than Tulum.

Very nice little town, much better than Tulum. No pushy people, acceptable prices, not too many tourists. Nice places to eat and nice things to do around Bacalar: on the lake, but also - Los Rapidos, who might be a bit unfriendly - Kin Kan ziplines, who have a great team and are highly recommended - Kohunlich ruins, calm and very nice

Very beautiful place with a lot of things to do if you like tha water, also Chetumal and Xul-ha are very close so you can go there and know new beautiful places, even you can go to Belize if you want to know a new country.

This is a unique location in Mexico.

This is a unique location in Mexico. I definitely loved the intense animal life, the potential for peace, and the jungle. Unfortunately the lake seemed to be getting some kind of thick foam that would wash up on the beach and I saw no fish, which made me unhappy about the level of pollution. They also allowed motor boats, and although there were not many being used during my stay, it seemed like a clear path to destroying the natural habitat that people visit to experience. I definitely got the peaceful vibe that I wanted when I booked a stay in Bacalar, but my friend who stayed in a different hotel had to switch to another place because there was a wedding party happening under her room so enjoyment of a tranquil lake setting is not guaranteed if that is what you are seeking.

We really loved our stay! The location is excellent – very central yet peaceful, making it a lovely little oasis right in the heart of Bacalar. The pool area is beautiful, and everything feels very relaxing and comfortable. The breakfast was good, the entire property is charming and well-kept, and the hotel team was extremely friendly and full of great recommendations for the area. Our room was cozy and came with a lovely veranda including a hammock, which we enjoyed a lot. neighborhood – but hey, that’s Mexico. Bacalar is beautiful!

What an outstanding location and great vibe of staff. We loved the architecture, the great chefs and their exquisite cooking, the laguna and all activities around it. Our tree house was just perfection. We enjoyed this place very much. Definitely a highlight during our three weeks Mexico trip

Beautiful rooms, stunning location, you could stay here a long time relaxing. The staff are all lovely and the food is incredible - we ate at the hotel so much, some of the best food we had in Mexico! try the local dishes!
