A great room, with even a kitchenette. Good bed with very nice bedlinnen.

Recommend staying in larger hotels. Not easily walkable due to safety concerns and aggressive begging/selling everywhere. We became very ill after eating at two large hotels. Ensure use of only sealed water, even for personal care. Would plan for short stays in the capital, have transportation and activities preplanned. Air quality is very bad due to constant burning of fields. Three of four people in our group were robbed the first day they ventured out to the market nearby. Safety limited ability to explore the area. Traffic is horrible. Bring candy or school supplies if venturing into the countryside, and bring your generous heart, as a little goes very far here.

This is not a wealthy 1st world city, as long as you are happy with that, you will enjoy it.
There is a lot of old culture here, some local, and lots mainly from Colonial times.
Taxis....plenty, but negotiate the price first or you may regret it !. The city is very crowded, so it gets gridlocked easily.
Food...generally street food and smaller restaurants are very cheap, the local rums are to die for, and there are too many to ever try them all.
Bring Lomatil...this is a must.

The price is really reasonable and people and food are nice. Traffic and air condition are awful. It was my first visit to Africa so being there itself was really unusually nice but I think people like clean freaks might hate this city :)

Busy city but there’s not loads to do, a few days is perfect I stayed too long. Restaurants on the other hand were incredible. You do get hassled by people trying to make you buy things but if you’re polite but firm they will leave you alone after they’ve told you everything. It’s a fun place to experience a different market culture but as always beware of pickpockets

Tana shows the (great) poverty of the many, and the wealth...
Tana shows the (great) poverty of the many, and the wealth of the very few. Everywhere you go, the people try to make a living on the street, with little stalls or just a blanket, selling literally everything. Trips of about 5-6 km may take you well over two hours by car/taxi. Walking is not an alternative. The sheer amount of people on the streets during the day is just mind boggling.
This would be a very nice boutique hotel in pretty much any city in the world - huge spacious rooms, wonderful hand carved wood accents everywhere, friendly staff, and really nice dining , outdoor and indoor, with a fantastic roof top bar and space. The location was ideal for us, as we wanted to be near the airport, and the free and fast shuttle service was great, but it is obviously not close to downtown, making the rating of its location a matter of needs and preference.
Convenient location in centre of town although some 30-40 minutes from the airport. Quirky hotel with friendly staff and rooms spread across a number of buildings. Ask for a room in the new building and if you can afford it one on the top floor. Huge rooms. Other smaller rooms can be a bit dated and tight for room. Air con noisy and not very efficient in older rooms. Hotel Good value and happy to store luggage. Excellent restaurant on first floor.
The hotel location is satisfactory, at the central area of Tana. The restaurant offers clean, high-quality, good-tasting foods and it has a big terrace where you can enjoy your coffee and sunshine in the early morning. It is 25 minutes by walking from the Queen's Palace, but be careful with the local people along the way to the Palace. DO NOT bring any valuable stuffs with you and DO NOT take your phone out when you are exposed outside.
I absolutely loved the rooftop restaurant at the hotel, the food was incredibly delicious, and the room was a truly comfortable experience. The neighborhood was also a highlight, offering a peaceful atmosphere while providing numerous places and activities to explore. I highly recommend this place, whether you're seeking a cozy stay or want to discover Antananarivo in its most beautiful aspect. It truly exceeded my expectations!
Just like the first time I stayed, the staff were very accommodating and the check in/out process was very easy. We were able to check in early without an additional cost and were able to have the included breakfast a different day because we would be leaving too early on our second day. The hotel was easy to contact and arranged the shuttle to the airport. Wifi and breakfast were great! They accept AMEX. I'll be returning!
Room was very clean. Staffs were very friendly and the hospitality was more than I expected. Food was awesome, I didn't feel that I was away from my home. I would recommend this hotel if you are planning to visit madagascar. Just almost 4kms from the intl airport..I would surely go and stay at this property whenever I am planning to visit madagascar.
La Ribaudière is always so amazing! This is my third time over the last 7 years to visit Madagascar and stay in La Ribaudière. The staff is always very helpful, the food is always very good and the price is always right. Americans visiting Antananarivo, this is a must! They speak great english and are willing to arrange money exchange.
This is a clean, modern hotel close to the airport. First time I've seen a rain shower head in Madagascar--loved it!. A perfect place to relax while waiting for a flight. The pool and other leisure areas were fantastic, and the staff friendly and professional. (Having an English-language station--BBC--on the television was a bonus!)
we loved everything here! what a lovely place to stay in Tana…like an oasis of calm in a busy city. staff all incredibly helpful, it felt like our home in Madagascar. very clean and beautiful decor. amazing breakfast. we were especially grateful for their help arranging transfers and the cotisse bus.
Well-located in the city - inside is like another world, cut off from the grime and noise outside. Breakfast buffet was delicious, and eating area by the pool a beautiful oasis. Fantastic value! One of the rare places in Madagascar that offered shampoo.
The room, furniture and all fixtures appear brand new, there is a tea cattle and cups and saucers and hotel provides tea bags and sugar, there is also complimentary large water bottle and you get a new one every day.
The ambiance created by the massive collection of antiques is truly unique. The fact that the collection was created by buying antiques from locals bringing their pieces to the hotel since 1960, adds to the charm.
The staff were very friendly
The treatment was very good
The room was clean

The whole place was stunning. Big room, wonderfully decorated, very friendly staff, comfortable bed, nice restaurant, great pool with views, close to the airport.
Awesome place, very good service, the room were nice, great view, the spa access incredible. The bakery of the hotel was delicious. Highly recommended!
